I usually don't get involved in political rant threads but I do have a couple of things I would like to say; please here me out.
The candidate I along with many others voted for conceded to President Elect Barack Obama in one of the best speeches I have had the privilege to listen to. I also listened to our [United States of Americas] next President speak. I must say it also was a great speech. Our country has made history tonight and I'm thankful for that. Now a hard road lay ahead of all of us [citizens of this great country] to stand behind our new President, not to criticize, or to put under a microscope. It's our duty to our Country and Constitution to make sure that our new elected and few incumbents that remain do what's best for America and the world.
We may have our differences in which road to travel to get to where we want to go but I feel we all wanted to make it to the same place. A safe, peaceful, and economically sound country. A country that once again would gain respect from our allies and a country that the world as a whole could look for guidance.
Tonight I congratulate both parties on long hard campaigns. The people of our country has spoken and it's time we look toward the future and hopefully we as a nation can come together and achieve what we all want.

Let's hear that same quote when, in three or four years, you are waiting 4 months for a necessary physician's appointment or when you are out of a job because your employer chose to close doors rather than pay exorbitant taxes. Or, better yet, when you are still making the same amount of money then as you are now because your employer decided to pass those "tax saving for the middle" class on to you. Maybe he has a magic trick up his sleeve to stop inflation so this won't matter. I hope he was right, but I am scared shitless waiting to find out.

Scared people never make history. They go out as numbers. Even if it doesnt work, a different way needs a chance... simply because the other way didnt work.
There would be no innovations or progress if people were just sh*t scared always.. man would still be in a cave. Some people still choose to be in there though.. by choice. |

As an Australian, I was moved to tears, with the emotive and powerful speech of the new 'President of the Untied States of America'.
I feel we have just seen 'History in the Making'.
I feel the world needed change, and I hope the world will become a much better place.

I'm outfitting my cave and stockpiling necessities as we speak. What didn't work? Let me guess, the bailout is an issue. Maybe if Obama's lawfirm hadn't sued Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to give more high risk loans...or was it immigration? Mr. "I didn't know my auntie was an illegal." Or maybe it really was all those tax breaks we gave to "big business" so they'd come into our states and provide jobs for the people. You MUST be right...it just wasn't working.
ETA: Even with my fears and our differences, we now have to make it work. While I am worried and fearful of the next few years, Mr. Obama is now MY president. We should spend the next little while venting our gripes, then lets stand back up together as Americans.

There is nothing left but to hope for the best. I will support Obama as I would any US president. I hope the people are right in electing him. We will see. |

Dont even get me started. Are you saying the state that we are in is all OK and we didnt need a change? Are you sayig all that went wrong was NOT because of the elite that are in power, BUT because of an inexperienced senator whom you doubted can win this battle in the first place?
Even if I agree with you...think about this: if he could affect so much being out of office, imagine how much he can change when he is in the office.
All the issues you mentioned have been discussed dead beat in this and other threads. No use digging them again. You choose pessimism, that you very well can.. you have a right. Perhaps watching FoxNews will help you find out why it is that a majority of people didnt believe in what you are saying here... and why people chose hope instead of hatred and greed.
I choose optimism. I choose hope.
Good night my friend, and good luck next time!

Amen Sherryl!
Today reinforced the belief that more people choose peace over war.. unity over partisanship.. and thinking for others over selfishness.
What a wonderful world!!

That happens right now, assuming you can get (or pay for) one at all. Remember, this "broken health care system" we have right now is the result of letting deregulated market forces run the show for most of the past forty years -- a common definition of insanity is to keep doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. The only place that works is shooting craps -- perhaps it's time to try a different game. |

This is a fantastic day. Congratulations to the USA.
On another note, I thought McCain's speech was superb. But why was I getting all weepy listening to Obama? lol

Too many infomercials, my friend. I have never once has an issue getting any appointment that I need. I work my ass off to have a job with a health care benefits package. Is it too much to expect that the rest of the country do the same without their health care costing me?

Dude, you DEFINITELY have been living in a fantsay world.
Health care has been a financial nightmare and a disgraceful mess for quite some time now.
Part of the reason my wife and I are happy about her job is because of the radical difference it's made in our lives by not having to pay our own health insurance.
She works for the state, so not much is likely to change in her plan.
The bare bones major medical coverage that we were paying when I closed my business early in '04 was dangerously close to $15K a year.....and that was no vision, dental, or prescription plans, and there were really high deductibles.
The plan that she has now costs us $77 a months, no deductibles, and generous dental, vision, and prescription plans.
That swing is effectively a $40K change in our life if you figure the cost differential and the fact that it's a benefit and not a liability now.

Yes, she is. Last you'll hear of her. She appeals to such a narrow segment of the population that the GOP would be crazy to invite her back for '12. She may run as an independant, but this was her 15 minutes. Looking forward to the Playboy spread, though. :-P |

The exact same people who say it's unpatriotic to question the President will now be doing exactly that, watching his every move and criticizing it. And that's how it should be. Presidents have become too powerful in this country. They need to be questioned, criticized and scrutinized at every turn.

Oh, PLEASE!!!
One man couldn't do that even if he set out to, and that comment just gives you the appearance of being narrow-minded and clueless.
Please elaborate some specifics as to how this supposed destruction is going to come about.

Maybe by spending trillions of peoples taxes on wars with false pretenses, allowing a corporate capitalist system to run rampant and unchecked, then throwing close to a trillion more of people's taxes to save it when it collapses.
But I'm just being silly...obviously universal health care would be the end of the US.
