An interesting take on the repercussions of a Republican loss.

It's not that it was available for so long, as much as a reminder to the states that stand to lose a lot from the policy. From what I read, producing coal w/o greenhouse gasses is financially impossible with current technology. As I have some knowledge of production in the US, I can assure you that without coal, you won't be posting in here any more. And it won't make any difference anyway. China finishes a new coal fired plant every 2 weeks.
They have no intention of following any cap and trade foolishness.

I just want to remind everyone, regardless of which side holds your loyalties: According to Dick Cheney and Zell Miller if you don't support the president you're unpatriotic. I am sure Mr. Cheney and Mr. Miller would agree that no matter who gets elected or what party holds power it is your civic duty to support the president and not question his actions in any way.

Well I'm just out of the hospital after a heart incident, not real strong on stamina right now, and I worried about the lines in voting, so I wandered over to my town hall and, in 15 minutes, applied for, received, filled out, and deposited an absentee ballot for the candidates of my choice :-)

Tomorrow I'll recline in my recliner and watch politics all day.... What a hell of an interesting election... brings to mind the ancient Chinese curse: "May you live in interesting times!"

You know, it boggles the mind to think that Madelyn Payne, Barack's grandmother, would have been only 14 years old when John McCain was born. This is the biggest age gap between US presidential opponents isn't it?

Robert, here's wishing you a speedy and complete recovery. :)

Down to the wire. Just saw a negative campaign ad. I'll be glad when this is over. I'll be up early to vote before work and hopefully avoid long lines at the polls.

Bear, I'm glad you are out of the hospital and fit enough to vote, absentee or otherwise. Feel better soon!

Very interesting indeed. "... Republicans, by a margin of more than two to one, believe that Mr. McCain is losing “because the mainstream media is biased ...". I may vomit.

Sorry to hear about your incident, Robt. DO try to get some rest and not let the election reporting upset you. My prayers are with you.
And thanks for voting. You're a real trooper.

Of course! If they lose, it can't possibly mean anything. Results only matter when you agree with them, right?

Here are the early results.

(kids are probably a reflection of what's going on at homes. Take it with a grain of salt - there are a lot of kids that can't use a computer or do not participate....)

Yup. The media stuffed the ballot box.

We have early voting in Texas, so I was able to vote 2 weeks ago- walked in, voted and was back out within 5 minutes. Some people like the hubbub of Election Day, but I'm with Bear, in the proverbial recliner, changing channels every 5.6 seconds, to see if I missed something on another network.

Rob- be well. I'm thinking of you and thanks for the belated fav!

XOXOXO

Hello, Everyone! After a long absence in the forums, I have decided to present a poem...that I think is in good taste, humorous, and as politically neutral as is humanly possible...for me!

Since my brain is about to explode from information saturation and anticipation animation (Do you think I'd make a good assistant for Johnny Cochran?), I had to write this poem as a release & as a relief. Please, Enjoy! :)

'Twas The Night Before 'Lection (a Re-Mix)

'Twas the Night Before 'Lection,
when all through the States,
Not an ill word was spoken,
for fear of losing The Race!

With Ma in recliner,
and I on the couch,
We had just settled in...
...to a long night, "Don't Rouse!"

The sweet children we'd nuzzled,
and sang them to sleep,
One Melatonin to each,
and now never a peep!

When out on the lawn,
was such a ruckus infernal,
That I jumped to my feet,
checked the locks, all internal!

But what in my minimal peace should invade,
Large Donkeys and Elephants,...danced as they played!

Then giving a twist of each tail, tusk & trunk,
They came down my chimney as though they had shrunk!

A donkey was changing,
and said we all could,
But one wonders if,
all that changing is good!

The elephant was lythe,
quite a jolly old elf,
And I chuckled while voting,
despite how I felt!

The tinkling and jangling,
of cracked cups, plates, and pots,
Filled my lungs with great laughter,
What a show that we got!

Then splaying their legs,
and cocking each head,
They finished their song,
'bout the White, Blue & Red!

Now jumping up for,
a dead-run up-the-flue,
They said to "Please Vote US,
and we bid you adieu!"

After banging and climbing,
the chimney they cleaned,
They ran through the yard,
pushing, shoving,...Quite Mean!

When they noticed our faces,
each nose pressed down flat,
Remembered themselves,
threw right down...ev'ry bat!

As they stood there their faces, smudged and smeared with black soot,
They were smiling Quite Big-ly, 'tween their ears, head to foot!

With their arms o'er the shoulders of idealogues,
They comforted voters with Vict'ry's Prologue!

"When Elected I'll be just the sort that you need,
But if not, then I'll stand, and most humbly concede!

"Yet, for now, We will bid you the fondest farewell,
And tomorrow, We Win! Or else,...We're S-O-L!"

Happy Election Day Everyone! Time to go wait in line with the neighbors. And by the way, when are we going to make this a national holiday so people can vote throughout the day instead of crushing polling centers after most people get out of work?!?

Darn! I keep screwing up my posts, lol!

I live on the same street as my district polling place. It's my house, a neighbor, a commercial garage that fixes tractor trailers, then the firehouse (polling place). I have never ever seen the amount of traffic that we currently have going on. My street is lined with cars and I'm glad I have a driveway. It started at 6am and has been non stop. The last election I went about 9am and there was no one there except me and the poll workers. This time I'll be waiting for a lull before I walk down there. I can't wait to see the numbers after the election how many more millions of people voted this time over the norm.

I was the 14th person to vote in my voting district. Was in and out in a few minutes, Long lines were starting to form as I left. Now I am going to watch the idiot box belch out false results until someone gets accurate numbers.

No political views, just a plea - if you are eligible, VOTE! No matter who is elected it is an historical election. The clearest message we as voters can project is that we, the people, want change and the best way to show that is to vote.

Does anyone know if it's legal to take a camera in a polling place in NJ? I tried google but couldn't find any answers.

I would imagine you wouldn't be able to take it into the polling area without press credentials.

If it is legal, you may want to post it here.

I used to photograph the screen when we used touch-screen machines, and there's a photographer I heard about on NPR who I think is trying to get everyone to photograph their ballot for documentation.

Howdies...

When does voting start?

What is a good website to get live + graphical results as they come in?

Thanks for any help!

I can't answer your question really. I had my camera case over my shoulder this morning when I voted in NYC. It's possible no one noticed it, or perhaps it's simply not a problem. I didn't try to take any photos.

I did, however, see polling officials make a couple who were wearing campaign buttons and t-shirts cover up their shirts and remove the buttons. I guess that's too much like campaining at a polling place. The couple was unhappy about it and complained that they didn't think it was the law, but they complied.

Slippy, I got this link in my email this morning for the NY Times site. I haven't check it out so I don't know if it's what you are looking for.
