Well, I haven't really weighed in on the zoo vs. Non-zoo issue, but my question is which glass is better for Wildlife...Nikon or Canon?

To the attackers:

I give up. I have adjusted my scores to reflect a min vote of 5 for all shots that are non-human. I hope that you are proud that you have now driven another person away from dpc because they were not a sheep like yourself.

The 1142 helpful comments I have given will never grow. The improvements that a growing photographer may have been able to make due in part to encouragement and suggestions from me will take longer.

Have fun playing with the other sheep, patting each other on the back until you realize that it is meaningless to do so.

Perfect answer!!!! If you had a P&S and were ready for the shot...that's all that matters. Look at what Joey Lawrence shot with a 1.3mp p&s when he was 15. Frickin UNBELIEVABLE. No wonder site members bought him a camera.

ETA: Ernie...if you leave dpc you'll never see the shot of that pendant...

Maybe just step away from the forums, not DPC entirely?

Maybe just take a little break. I for one would hate to lose you.

Sorry, I am not trying to turn this thread into a "save me" thread. please do not do that. Please go back to posting scores, as it should be.

Noting that an entry regarded as acceptable the last three times this challenge ran shouldn't suddenly be a DNMC isn't an attack. It's a difference of opinion. However sheep, as domesticated animals, would be a DNMC.

Basssman, I'd give all the zoo shots DNMC votes as well but the fact remains you can't quite tell what's what. The fair thing to do is to just vote based on the available information at hand and not guess at it. I think that more than anything is what stirred the masses against you.

Sorry, that would have been me. It's a balance between trying to make sure people are aware of why I said DNMC and patronizing people. I assume others have the problem of missing some key words I do. But I did tell you I wasn't voting. So, what's the consensus here, quote description, just put DNMC and maybe a terse blurb about the reason or don't comment at all?

So far I'm at my 5th worst after rising from 4.1, my 2nd worst, after 30 votes. I finally got some comments today helping explain my score a bit.

Bassman...I'm not going to try to save you because you are strong enough to be your own hero.

Remember, that some sheep are really wolves in sheep's clothing and not always going to hail your words as the opinion of the day and probably not meant against you personally. However, to carry this day, show us the higher road and understand pouting probably won't help your cause, but your good photography...WILL.

Just my two cents...;-)

Guys...

One voter alone cannot sway the whole challenge results drastically if you know statistics (I am sure we do). It isnt fair to take low-score-frustrations out on a single voter.. howmuchever disagreeing his voting tactics are from the 'mass'. He has a right to vote the way he wants, and ultimately is responsible for the comments he makes (if any).

I know this post alone cannot make the bitterness go away.. it keeps happening again and again (I have been there...:-).. but just consider the fact that there is already enough cut throat politics in real life.. do you really need more???

Just wait and watch the scores and appreciate how great some of us are with their images. Not everyone is supposed to like all images.... thats just not gonna happen. Learn something new.. and get a better one next time. And if you dont want appreciate others efforts (in photography and commenting and voting) and always expect a blissful world here on DPC, you need to do a reality check and figure out why you are so streesed and annoyed... is the cause somewhere else that is being displaced on a virtual forum?

Try to have fun... and if you cant, may be DPC isnt what you thought it is, well.. find what brings fun to you.. not stress. It doesnt bring stress to me...at least not anymore. Not everyone will appreciate your images or comments or voting pattern.. thats a reality. If you dont know that, you will get shocked every challenge. If you do understand that, you will find a way to outweigh the cons of being on DPC with the benefits.

Just my opinion:-)

He-he. I posted this in here earlier (pg 3 I think)...the "wildlife conversation", a.k.a. scores thread, of 2008 appears to be crushing that of 2007.

My goodness but this is a verbose bunch!

Meanstwhile, back at the challenge:

You have rated 158 of 159 images (99%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 40 images (25%) in this challenge.
You have given an average score of 6.5127

More comments coming. Apparently I liked a lot of the images I saw; that's the highest average I think I've ever given out! I must have been in a good mood when I voted. Or maybe there really are a lot of good images in there. I'll figure that out as I struggle to articulate why I gave the scores I did.

And in answer to hihosilver: Sigma! This week, for me ;-)

Whilst other images need a hit with the contrast slider....they look like something a mobile phone would capture....without the editing expertise of a photographer. All of this could be other reasons for people getting low votes...not just the possibility of zoo haters voting.

Dont be hating cause I took a zoo photo with a cell phone camera and pimped it out with Photoshop!

I think for those that took a zoo shot and were able to hide the zoo factor (bars, concrete, fence, polar bears with palm trees, etc) that they should not be scored lower for the simple reason that you can not always tell and while you are hurting one shot - you are favoring another for perhaps the exact same violation. Now if there was no effort to hide the zoo factor then do as you will. I will repeat myself - that while voting in the studio portrait contest I only dinged those that I KNEW were outside as in leaning up against a tree - laying in the grass, etc. Of course, this is art and a contest so it is both subjective and open to interpretation - two variables that can lead to a huge variance.

Have fun all and Bassman - I hope you won't leave you have been helpful to me since I got involved a few months ago and I appreciate your efforts.
