First, let me assure everyone that I am NOT kvetching about my score. I like this shot so much that I could care what the score was (already ordered a 16x20 of it for my office).
Soar II
Take a gander at the comments on this shot. I find it highly amusing that nearly everyone who said or hinted that the shot didn't fit the challenge actually mentioned the exact reason it DID fit the challenge LOL.
Anyway, thanks to all who commented. I think this shot is propbably the first I've ever submitted to DPC where I truly didn't care about the score because I was so happy with it on its own merits.

It is a good shot - but I didn't see the connection to surprise until I just read the comments and saw some different views on this subject. I didn't vote on this shot. I'm sure there were plenty of others that didn't see the connection also. Nice work though...

I'm consistent. I don't mark ANY comments one way or the other so fewer people are offended. I don't believe in the race for "helpful" comments. Sorry if that offends anyone.
I actually found all of them helpful and have contacted several of the commenters personally.

Well just a thought for you. Of course, there's no benefit to us if you mark them helpful. But there is a benefit to you. I am much less likely to go and comment on someone's portfolio if I detect that they haven't marked my comments helpful. The reason is simply that I assess that there reaction to my comments was negative.
Having been to a number of these sites, I know there are some people who don't really want criticism. To me, the helpful box tells me about the goals of the person I have commented on.
On the other hand, for comments like "Nice Photo", it's not expected that you mark them helpful. But I always do anyway, because it's a sign of appreciation to someone for at least leaving their opinion, good or bad.

I am taking the same route. I think the commenting is becoming, to some, more about getting helpful checks that about substance. There are lots of 'rants' about not getting helpful checks so I will just stop checking those also.
I comment when I feel inspired to comment. I don't require any reassurance that someone found my comment helpful or not. It would not affect the way I comment if someone didn't check mine as helpful.

Would it surprise the heck out of you if this flock suddenly lifted off in front of you after they were startled? :-D
