An interesting shot; I would have liked to see the crop of just the birds sillouetted against the sky. The color contrast there is very cool, though perhaps a bit too dark a levels job here.

However, I am not sure I see the connection to the challenge here.

When a flock of birds are spooked! nice idea, I almost missed the angle on this one. the colors add so much to the mood of this shot...wonderful sun set. good luck!

Great use of color and silhoutte. The water surface looks strange (over-saturated?), but I'm not sure how you'd fix that without spot-editing. Connection to this challenge is subtle to say the least, but the photo certainly deserves to be seen.

Ok - I would be startled by a flock of seagulls busting into the air, I'm sure I wouldn;t have the presence of mind to get such a good photo. I love the layers of color mirrored by the layers of birds - few to many, sharp to soft focus. I'd crop a bit off the bottom. 9

I bet those birds were surprised to see you! ;)

A great shot, I like the colors of the horizon, the birds, but the DOF bothers me on this shot for some reason. I know the birds in the front are closer, there fore sharper but the others seem just a bit too blurry for the distance implied.

I started at a 6, am going to a 7

The colours are very nice. The water looks a bit pixelated. The birds are just beautiful, especially in the top portion of the image. I just can't seem to find the point of surprise in this photo.

Not sure how this relates to surprise. Is it that the birds are flying because they were surprised? If so, what surprised them? Seeing that would complete the scene. As it is, it's just some flying birds. I personally don't much like the noisy quality, especially in the bottom portion of the shot. The color of the sky is nice. The hectic action of the birds might be effective for certain purposes, but I don't find it too appealing of itself.

I really don't understand what is so surprising about this. If you could explain yourself I might be tempted to change my score.

Superb photo. Colors and composition are magnificent. A little too much noise at the bottom. I'm missing the "surprise" part, tho.

Beautiful shot...Does it fit the challenge? I will leave that up to you, the photographer to explain! Quite possibly you were surprised that your shot turned out so beautifully!!

I guess I don't see the relationship to "Surprise"
