Okay - I consider myself warned about Art and Slippy(?) I'm sure I will catch onto that warning later. I have donned my thick self preservation armor for criticism. I have a camera, duh. I hope to enter a challenge soon - what now?

Try not to be too impressed with studio setups and water drops ;)

Oh, and stay out of the Rant forum. Honestly, it's for your own good.

Oh, and give all my images 10s. You'll know which ones they are because they're always between 4.9 and 5.9.

Now it's time to buy your coworker a Starbucks and say hi from the DPC Boards! Hey welcome!

Okies.....don't shoot nudes, babies, flowers, pets, studio set ups, children, water drops, fantasy, anything that can't be explained by a 3 year old...and ummmm...that pretty much covers it. You are free to photograph anything else!

If you enter a shot that you think is going to set the world on fire, it will more than likely score a 5. That is just the way that it works.

Just try to have fun and not take it toooo seriously, that way all the joy just gets sucked right out of it. Good luck from here on in!
10/02/2008 01:28:56 AM · #8
No don't listen to them! Take it very seriously. Let nothing stand in the way of you and blue ribbon glory!

Your very soul is not at risk, here. It's a game, or at least a diversion.

Shoot and present what you like and what your passion directs.

Be open to new ideas and critique. Be receptive to suggested improvements.

And pay zero attention to any member contributing to this thread, except for this poster, of course.

Some people on this site have sold their soul for 7 glory.

Don't forget eagles and also the stationary drops with little pictures in them from the background, don't shoot those either.

If you want to score high all the time shoot pics of yourself in funny costumes with cigars in your mouth. ;)

Hey, I may have sold my soul but it was not for my seven! (which of course finished freakin 5th)

Tales of our shenanigans have been greatly exagerated. Well, speaking for myself anyway. The stories about Slippy are all true.

Your first day and you've already got member's remorse. tsk tsk. It's not like you've joined some kind of cult or anything. Just relax. You're one of us now. Close your eyes. Imagine there is colored water flowing over you - washing your last ounce of resistance away. Breathe deeply.

Gird your loins for battle, prepare to draw your sword and vanquish the enemy on this fine day!
10/02/2008 02:32:53 AM · #16
Really, Spaz - who actually girds their loins these days?? ...and admits to it, I mean.

WELCOME, WELCOME, WELCOME..... and feel free to contact me if you need help, or just a friend.

Does anyone have a photo to depict this loin girding? Just curious.

Oh, and to the OP (original poster), welcome to DPC! Some have already told you, but scores, while important to many here, are not the be-all, end-all. Pick up a side challenge for fun for a month - great practice and a very good way to "meet" other DPC'ers!

Thanks to all for their welcomes and suggestions! I'm now a little more excited now that I am assured I am not walking into a pack of hungry wolves ready to devour a sweet young newbie like myself! How are side challenges posted and how often do they occur? Any thoughts on the very few photos I posted in my portfolio would also be welcome.

Hahaha! You are easy prey to this lot!! They all have sugar mouths and...huge fangs! They sucker you in with sweet talk and pounce when you least expect it. So, welcome to DPC, a frustrating place where you are happy one minute and spitting nails the next. It is fun...if you have S&M tendencies:}

You WILL fit in here, you have no choice. I have tried to escape many times, but they watch you and make sure the membership renewal is paid up before they leave you alone for another year. Anyway, side challenges are posted by...

And even if you can't afford to renew your membership in a year someone will pay it just to keep you around to poke at.

welcome to the madness ... you'll be addicted in no time ;)

Remember all low votes are from trolls and all high votes come from people who know everything about photography, also all comments are meant to be hurtful and should not be taken seriously unless you need something to complain about in which case you start a new tread about how bad the comment was without discussing who the idiot was.

Welcome and have some fun!

And always rememeber to edit your gramitical errors after you reply
