Is flipping the image horizontally and/or vertically acceptable?

Nope -- you'll have to take your shot using a mirror.

Ok, is this sarcasm or not?

If not, we're allowed to rotate, but not flip? Reasoning? Is it because many cameras out there don't have an auto-orientation sensor?

No, it's a serious suggestion, not sarcasm. Rotating does not change the composition or content, flipping does.

Even those that do sometimes get it wrong - ever shot from above? ;)

Hehe.. yes, but haven't had it go screwy for the sensor yet.

As for using a mirror, that doesn't help if you have writing that shows up backwards in the mirror, which is why I was asking. Not sure how to mirror the mirror.

I'll just find something different to shoot. lol

It always screws up for me - i shoot a shot of my feet in landscape and it comes out portrait or something similar...

Take a shot of the front of an ambulance... then it would read fine! ;-P

Ok but then if you flip the image in the software would not the writing now be backwards????

How dare someone disagree with me! How very very rude. I hope the next time you eat beans you get very bad gas!

Anyway, I agree. Maybe a better thing to do, would be to let everyone upload their photos, straight from camera and the SC batch processes them to resize and sharpen them. That would be truly no editing, and I've heard the SC have a lot of extra time on their hands anyway. And since everyone would be submitting their originals there would be no need to request any images for verification also.

Just when I had it figured out, I got some likely suspects but with the camera with the two hot pixels. Question is may I dodge 'em out, or do I pretend that they are part of the picture, or hope that people feel sorry for me and look the other way? The way the rules read, it seems I will have to leave them in, same as dust on sensor?

Yep, no cloning of specks. :(

Still time to re-shoot tho!

Appreciate speedy response. However, a hot pixel isn't what I think of as a "speck," which is supposed to be a speck of something, and this is a "speck" of nothing. I would be happier in my mind, if not in the virtual reality I enjoy at DPC, had you said no cloning of hot pixels.

I thought I seen it somewhere here but can't find it now.

Is straighten allowed?

You may rotate your entry by 90, 180 or 270 degrees. But no slight straightening of your horizon.

You may...rotate your image by 90, 180, or 270 degrees. I plan to have my ruler out. :) (j/k)

You cannot even crop the image to get rid of a bad line.
