the voters have certainly changed since the last one. Who knows what'll do well.
I think I have my entry, but I put it in, with great trepidation. :~) |

I really think that those threads that show up after every challenge is announced, and spend the next week arguing about what exactly the challenge is about, do far more harm than good. I think that these threads, like a lot of other threads, polarize the community and make people become even more close minded in their interpretations as each proceeds to argue that only his or her interpretation is the correct one.
And then when voting time comes around, this attitude persists and everyone votes accordingly with their personal blinders firmly attached.

At least shallow DOF is more easily defined than bokeh - that always gets a lot of heated discussion going. |

I'd have to agree whole-heartedly.
Of course, having done so, I also want to add that I'm very excited about my entry. This dooms me to a 4+ score I think.

I'm expecting a personal best to be honest. *sigh*.
That probably means disaster.

Good luck, Charlie! I hope you do well! But if you don't, just remember, it's not your fault, it's the voters! :)

I've submitted, removed and resubmitted twice. I think I like my third entry. I bet we will be 320+ by the time rollover occurs. Hmmmm |

and maybe 60 for Immovable! If I had any ideas at all I woulda picked the other one ... but I'm in for shallow dof ... actually did the same thing as you ... submit, resubmit, resubmit again ... I think I'll leave it alone now! Good Luck! |

May make an entry. It took me all week to figure out how to get an obvious shallow DOF. Now I have a few minutes to decide for obvious obvious, or not at all obvious. |

Good shot: either
Good score: obvious, obvious.
Voters tend to take it to the extreme, if its not as shallow as you can get its not shallow enough for about 50% of the voters.

Prolly my obvious obvious isn't obvious enough. (Course if I could get obvious obvious obvious then I would really hate myself). |

I've been hitting the bottom end of the list most every challenge lately... well not unlike alot of other times over the last 5 years either...but I did try for something different than the usual flower, bug, etc... I do like my entry...actually I'm very, very proud of it. If I end up with the brown, I will still be as proud of this entry as I have any in the past. I will be just as proud of every entry from now on. From now on...I plan to learn from my mistakes, not worry about pleasing everyone. If one person is pleased, even if it is only me, then I have created the perfect image for at least one person.
My advice to everyone here.... have fun, enjoy what you do, learn.
My new goal... "Shoot for the curb, anything above that is gravy!"

You're not alone in that resubmission thing ;-) I had several hundred shots to choose from so it's not a good sign that I kept going through them over and over. It's that danged Update Button Addiction ::sigh:: |
