This was shot from my back deck at 70mm, it stayed in place for almost 20 minutes and was awesome to watch. If you look closely you can see houses really close to the twister but fortunatly none were hit. The twister only moved about 1/4 mile even though it was on the ground twice once for about 15 minutes.

I was sitting watching some TV and heard some thunder and decided to look out to see if it might be getting ready to rain and that was exactly what my reaction was, then I grabbed my camera! |

This would not be my first thought...I guess i am just not much of a photographer after all...I would be more worried about my own hide...

If I missed the shot I would have heard its nothing without pictures..... If it had stared coming our way I may have soiled my pants running for the basement but we were lucky and had a great vantage point to watch it. |

incredible shot ... glad you and your family were safe! Congrats on having the courage to stand there and take pics while that thing was so close to your house! |

Here is a link to the NOAA's Grand Junction, CO office -- they take user-submitted images of weather-related phenomena. Other local offices do as well, if this is not the one nearest to you in your present location ... |

Wowzer! They would publish that on the "Weater Channel" photo of the day too if you submit it. I have had a couple published there. I am happy to hear that it didn't destroy any life or property. Those things are fascinating to watch. I have a couple of tornado photos, but nothing anywhere near as good as this one.

Wow! VERY impressive! Did you submit it to the local papers or media? Someday I want to take one of those "tornado hunter" vacations and hopefully see something like this. Beautiful! |

I did post it to our local TV channel, it was not used but a lot of people have said it was better than the one they used but they had a ton of shots to choose from. With this thing just sitting there for so long everyone had a chance to get good photos but it was a once in a lifetime shot especially since we do not get many tornados around here. |
