Whats happened to the little red 'This image has been validated' message that used to be on validated images during voting? This is the 2nd submission this year that required validation during voting and it took 5 days for validation but no red message - when was it removed?

It's always been disappointingly haphazard in application. |

I have an image that has been pending validation for 6 days.
Go me. |

Well, if I've spawned a new side challenge my record is 16 days before validation ;)

I questioned that on a recent entry of mine too. The answer I got is that if the requests for proof and associated comments on an image are insufficient to meet the criteria to warrant one, then a validated message does not go on it, even if it is validated. Especially if your image is scoring above your average.

Txs Judi, the image is scoring 5.3 (0.5 below my average) and whilst it might be paranoia thought the validation might help it along a little with the last few votes. I'm not bitter at a 5.3 as thats what the masses feel its worth. And, would it be an idea not to ask for the original until (say) 3 people have requested validation? sounds good especially as SC don't always feel its worth adding the validation and would cut down on their heavy workload.

While I accepted the SC's decision on my image, I didn't agree with their decision in not putting the validated sign on the image. If there is at least one request then there would be other people who are suspicious of a breach of the rules, but many are too nervous or have the attitude of 'I will let someone else request a validation' and unfortunately there are many who do vote down on suspicious images.
I do understand that some people do a self validation request to help their votes...but if someone else has requested it, then it should be placed on there.
JMO!

Fully agree with you Judi!
Just had a great comment on the shot that ended with a comment suggesting I may have used an illegal editing step however, gave it an 8 - just like the rules say, vote as if its legal (I may even have got a 9 from them with the validated stamp lol).

I've never liked having that message appear on photos during voting after it has been validated. Although the message is meant to clear an image of any wrong doing it still can leave a negative perception, that someone may have gotten away with something. At the very least it distracts the voter somewhat since they'll be thinking a little more about how it was captured/created rather than judging the end result only.

I think that's probably my comment :)
To be honest I wouldn't have voted any differently (although you might still get a 9 as I have to refine my final scores yet and it definitely wont be going any lower mate it's a wonderful shot), I do believe in giving the benefit of the doubt in these cases and letting the SC do their thing if needed - I only added that comment as I had spent so long looking at (and admiring) the shot that I started to try and imagine the processing involved - I won't go in to any detail as I don't want to give away which image it may be.
I certainly didn't mean to accuse you of cheating and apologise if that is how it came across. |

Yup. I entered my shot for Double Take on the morning of August 25th and asked for validation. This morning was the seventh day. |

We often do not go through the validation process nor post a note when only the photographer has requested the validation but no one else has. We also often don't request an original or post a note if we get a user-generated request for an invalid reason (such as DNMC) or for something we can determine without an original.
Also, submitting an original along with your entry is not a "request for validation" -- it merely expidites obtaining/viewing the original should there be a subsequent validation request.

I wasn't complaining, GeneralE. I was clearing up some confusion.
It is good to know that validation requests before the voting don't even get looked at, though. I think I should have just asked a general question instead of asking for validation on my specific entry. Then, I wouldn't have an entry in without knowing if it's legal.
Perhaps this could be written somewhere, so folks will know to just ask a question instead of asking for validation.
Or perhaps it is, and I just didn't research enough... |

From the page where you upload originals:
Important: By submitting this form, you are not guaranteed a response regarding your validation.
Bold is actually red. :) |

Aha! Thanks, GeneralE! Now I know.
I thought I was contacting them when I asked for validation. But, with your explanation, I understand. Thanks.
