To the contrary... As I stated above ...with a static subject such as a cardboard box one is going to have to be very creative for it to work. Do we have that creativity in us? I hope we do without having to deviate from the details. It is easy to be creative if one skews the details to fit their creative work, hard and rewarding to the one's that stick to the details and pulls off a creative shot.
After thinking of several ideas with many shots of each, if I can't pull it off then I will not enter or enter my best...probably the latter.

Define ordinary: Shoe Box? Chocolate Box? Cereal Box? ????? They are all cardboard, "Creative" is the Photographic medium I believe.

By the details using the word "box" and "any size" would give me enough circumstantial evidence to come to a conclusion it refers to photographing a cardboard box in its natural state. |
In that case can I get my DNMC now and avoid the rush?

Well... I'm no DNMC expert, but this was my entry for "Boat" -- a portion of a boat (and I didn't even disassemble the boat)
And it was not seen as a 'boat' since it didn't look like a boat.
I'm assuming a piece of corrugated paper (a cut up box) won't look like a cardboard box to these same folks.
Fair warning... some folks will not like corrugated paper shots for the box challenge.

I scrapped my corrugated cardboard idea, I even have shots of it that i'll post in the outtakes thread after rollover. The comments in this thread swayed my thinking.

LOL... your right I could of used better wording. But I think [hope] people knew what I meant. I don't have a problem with seeing a partial or dilapidated cardboard box as long as it is recognizable as "cardboard" and "box".

Sounds like the whole purpose of this thread is to find out the best ways to shoehorn an entry. I'll be waiting for ya' |

It's not too late to change Cardboard Box to basic editing and change Still Life to advanced. Silk hat on a pig, etc. |

OK. I'm in the challenge and stuck to the details [as I see them] now hopefully the voters will like my entry; I do! |

I failed to figure out a cardboard box shot that couldn't either be voted dnmc because it doesn't 'look like a cardboard box' or voted down because of no wow factor. I'll be looking to see what there is to see on this challenge. |

in no spot in that definition does it say that the box needs to remain in one piece nor that the whole box needs to be in the frame = it says USE A CARDBOARD BOX TO MAKE A CREATIVE IMAGE when its translated into simple short and sweet=
in USING a cardboard box one can USE it in many ways = squashed torn/ cut or turned into a pinatta -
using colored lights on it= or projecting images onto just one side; doesn't matter what you do just use a box and make a creative pic :-P
try keeping an opened mind = it doesn't hurt. |

but one cannot make a conviction on circumstantial evidence can they? :-P

I wonder if it's possible to be literal-minded AND creative at the same time? |

No...the whole purpose of this thread is to scare off anyone not confident enough to rely on their creativity....less entries...more chance of winning...instead they should let people shoot what they want and stop this DNMC police bizzo!

Only the weak will be scared off, and actually the "conversation" goes both ways...it could be construed that some may ding an entry that stays too close to the literal interpretation. Darned if you do, darned if you don't. Kind of the way it usually works around here. :-) |

Steady now - this may have to be referred to an authority even higher than the dpc police. Judi will not help you then. |

Well. I've been watching this thread, and listening to you all babble on about DNMC's and creativity and so on and so forth. And let me just say...
I'm SO excited for voting to start! I really like my entry, funny enough it was an out-take that ended up being better than the original. I hope that some of you put together some creative and technically awesome shots so we can all enjoy them!
Good luck - T-minus 6 hours :)

I wish I had an entry in the Cardboard Box challenge. I have quite a few boxes made of cardboard & even some cardboard boxes & corrugated paper boxes. I just couldn't find a way to take the challenge literally & be creative at the same time. I don't enter that many challenges for exactly this reason. So, I am one of the 'weak' that is scared off easily. Wah! I may have to overcompensate by taking up shoehorning for a hobby.

On a more happier note - Glad to see the number going up.
Good Luck to all! |

I am going to take one in an hour. It will be making good score but I am not sure if it gets me ribbon or even first 5. Idea is fine, execution will be the key. I think I have a chance to beat Judi on this one. But I am not betting on it. One bet per week is enough :P |
