OK, my second QA submission also got rejected, but this time, they only listed problems for one of the 4 images. Does this mean that the other 3 are OK or did they just stop at the first problematic one they found?

Dave, from memory, though you'll have to check, their current new contributor first submission policy is that they do check all 4 images but that if any one of them fails the entire submission is failed. It's hard to know whether they did check all 4 of yours and only one didn't meet their criteria or whether they checked one, which failed, and they didn't bother to check the rest.

Did they provide a reason for failure - they usually do.

Wouldn't it be a good idea to post the pics they refuse so that others can compare their own work to the refused images and maybe catch something that may help them in getting accepted?

Let's say out of the 4, you post 1 so we can all get a look at what a rejected image looks like. Would that be helpful to anyone?

This is a 100% crop of an upsized submission from last month, that passed QC.

That's fantastic, mine are far less frequent than monthly!
Do you mind my asking whether these are regular sales or novel use sales?
I.e. regular prices or the deeply discounted stuff?

Quick question about Photoshop Elements...Do they use the same procedure to upscale images as the full Photoshop?

To answer you dave, They stop at the first problematic shot and reject the whole batch.
Its sucky, but I guess it saves them a lot of time.

AFAIK the algorithms are the same ... Bicubic Smoother is usually recommended for upsizing, but for this purpose I would try them all and compare -- which one works "best" may depend on the content of the individual image.

Thanks, I only ask because my copy of Photoshop has an educational license and its restrictions attached to it. (i.e. no making money with it)

Well, if you own both anyway, I really don't think Adobe will care which you use to upsize a few photos to submit, but it's a good point of which to be aware. If you ever upgrade PS, you will then have a "full" license, unemcumbered by the Educational restrictions -- that's their whole purpose in giving you the Educational discount in the first place.

OK, this is killing me.

I got approved for my 4 images finally, but my next 7 have been rejected, mostly for quality issues.

1. If they give no rejection reason, what does that mean? The link still says to resubmit...
2. Can someone post their preparation steps for a 10MP camera like my 10D? I know I have quality images to submit, I just have to upsize them properly.

I know I'm joining this thread late, but I just got notice that my first four images were approved. I submitted them Saturday, they were approved first thing this morning (Monday). That seemed really fast!

Well, on to keywording!

I thought the 10D was a 6MP camera?

It is. My typo.

Two of my four images approved were taken on my D50 -- a 6MP camera.

What I did was this:

1. In Photoshop, re-size the image using Bicubic Smoother so that it shows a size over 96 MB (about 5100 px on the longest size works good).

2. Convert the image to 8 bits/channel under the Mode option.

3. Convert color space if necessary to sRGB as Alamy requests. (See edit below)

4. Save image as a JPEG at the highest quality possible (12 on the slider I believe).

Now for a few caveats:
- My photos come from RAW and are therefore, 16 bits/channel when I start. If you are shooting JPG, this may not be the case.

- I try to crop only minimally. If you have to take off more than a small edge, upsizing to their specs can introduce artifacts.

- I tend to make adjustments with levels and the like before I upsize. Since they are layers, I believe it's perfectly safe.

- Be very careful that the images are perfectly sharp to start with.

Granted, I've only just gotten through QA with Alamy, but this same workflow has proved very effective for much of the print work I've done as well. If you're still having problems, perhaps you can post a full size crop for us to see?

Edited to add: Alamy doesn't actually come out and specify that it wants sRGB. In fact, there seems to be evidence on the Alamy forums that Adobe RGB is actually preferred.

They reject the whole lot if any one doesn't qualify - perhaps if there is no reason, it was a different one that caused the rejection.

Proud to announce I had two sales so far this month. (Let me reiterate how happy I am that I made the jump out of the rip-off microstock agencies)

The shots were from the 2006 World Lacrosse Championships in London, Ontario. One is of Team Japan's goaltender, and the other is of a midfielder from Team Australia. Both licensed editorial, North America, educational/college, and would appear to be for textbooks.

A5G3FW - $332
A5G37X - $235

Puts my total to almost $1000 for five sales, so I should be getting a check for about $600 once they clear. Talk about excited.

That's great news!

May I ask how many photos you have listed with them? I've just started but I'm hoping to get a few hundred here soon. Hopefully, I'll start seeing some action!
