I haven't been keeping up. I realized I had interpreted the subject of this side challenge in my own way & I can see now that I was supposed to take my item around to different locations for each shot. I did try to think of different locations, like sticking the fork in a crack in a sidewalk, or in the dirt next to a weed. I could've placed the fork next to the dead bird. I couldn't force myself to get interested & just kind of stopped shooting for this challenge altogether. This composite is of the dead bird combined w/a motion-blur shot of the four forks. I've enjoyed keeping up with the shots submitted by all of you, but I don't even seem to be able to find the words to comment. So, I'll be seeing you in another thread & I'm looking forward to it. Cheers!

Not necessarily. A lot of mine were done in a light tent on my kitchen table. I think the idea is more to stretch your creative muscles and to try to do something different with it every day. Even if it is in the same location, you can find ways to add variety. The shots I've seen of your fork fit the idea just fine, IMO.
The thing I have been enjoying about this side challenge is that I am not constrained by editing rules or the concern of how high it might or might not score. (Except for the one that I went and entered in the high contrast challenge. It's just doing so-so. I don't think my sense of humor is widely appreciated.) I can just do something for the fun of it. |

When in competitive mode, people seem to set a sense of humor, or fun, aside. My entry in high contrast is hanging in there at about a 4.5, which is what I expected. It's getting to the point that I expect to do badly in the voting challenges, so I don't put much effort into my work. For me, too, the side challenges are more fun & more forgiving of having fun & a sense of humor. So, I enjoy those much more, especially when I feel in sync w/what's going on. [eta] I enjoy your sense of humor, too. "D

Challenge knock-offs? Yes
Killing Kitty? No
We are all quite attached to everyone elses items and wish no harm to come to them! |

Like you, I didn't read specific rules into this side challenge. My goal was to take some rather varied photos of bottles using various amounts of pp (or lack thereof...). I didn't even intend to use the same bottle! It has been as frustrating as it has been fun, but I'm learning new PSE tools and as yospiff said, stretching my creative muscles. And I don't even have to click on that @&%$# update button! Just have fun! |

Sorry froggy hasn't made an appearance in a few days, he's been busy trying to stay dry and away from the flood waters! Hopefully when the water goes down he'll be able to play catch up! |

There are no real rules here, with these side challenges, only guidelines.
The most important thing is to have fun, and learn new processing skills as we go along.
Also a great way to enjoy and share other peoples photos along the way.....
I also love the way one does not have to looks at that dam update button every five minutes.
Just have FUN.....

Well I can't remember who, or when, but someone said in a comment on one of my toothbrush images, that the company 'Colgate' may be interested in what I am doing with my 'Colgate' toothbrushes.
I email them. re the Australian distributer, re my images here at DPC.
I was so surprised to actually here from them, as they sent me a nice official letter, thanking me for contacting them, and that they really liked the images that they saw, and also sent me some free products.
I was quite pleased with that response, and was amazed that they sent me some Palmolive products, and not Colgate. They must own both companies I guess.
I really did not think I here from them, so I feel a little proud, and quite pleased with myself. They have companies and outlets all over the world, so I may here from them again.
One never can tell.

Cool! It's nice when someone thinks your stuff is that good! I wonder how 30 days of their toothbrushes could be used in an ad campaign? |

Sounds like something that they should publish in their company newsletter (along with examples of your photos). |
