It has only fluctuated between .10 to .25 points since voting started (I am not going to count what I saw at only 5 votes). After being away for 7 1/2 months I am happy with the composition and the score.

Not going to speak for everyone, but sometimes tis hard. I thought I would be able to comment on all in this challenge or at least a good portion but with the kids home for the summer and a bout with food poisoning that has indeed become a challenge. If I don't get there I look yours up and comment after the challenge.

mine dropped from 8. to 7.7, odd jumping this late in the game, it is usually in teh begining that the lower score votes happen.

OMG I meant 6.899 to 7.701

Shit sorry for the mistake i really made LOL

I'm quite pleased with the number of comments I've gotten! It's definitely a record for me... and everyone is so kind!

Amazingly so, actually. Some are very detailed with their critique. Always a good thing...

My score has been dropping for the last two days. I hope it stops soon...

I'm familiar with "troll" being defined as one who flames a message board, how is it applied to a photo contest? What is "the scrubber"?

I haven't voted on this challenge yet. I got about eight hours sleep last weekend between work and getting my submission ready, so I haven't been up to it. I voted on a couple of other challenges, which was exhausting as they had over 200 submissions. Some of my votes were in line with the final result, others were way off. I'm not certain I know how to judge what makes a good picture from a critic's standpoint, I can only judge it on whether I like the photo or not. As for commenting, I'd never get through it if I commented on each photo, so apologies in advance if I don't.

I haven't voted on this challenge yet. I got about eight hours sleep last weekend between work and getting my submission ready, so I haven't been up to it. I voted on a couple of other challenges, which was exhausting as they had over 200 submissions. Some of my votes were in line with the final result, others were way off. On here, IMHO, a troll is basically someone (or several someones) who choose to leave nasty comments and/or deliberately cast low votes even on outstanding photos. Obviously there is at least one out there cause so many people with great scores have seen them drop ridiculously over the last two days.

Sometimes trolls are people who are in a challenge, who stupidly think that if they give everyone else a shitty score, their picture will finish higher in the rankings. That rarely works, but I have seen threads in the past about how to vote on pics who are better than yours. Guess what happens...others in the challenge may get p.o.'d cause they're getting shitty scores, and may well turn into a troll themselves!

You don't have to comment on every single pic, btw! Most people seem to comment only on pics that evoke a reaction from them. You can if you want but there is no rule saying you must. In terms of casting your vote, well, go with what you like.

I try to vote taking into mind the creative and technical aspects...some members have very detailed methods of voting. And try to give any of your comments a positive spin.

For example, I HATE spiders. But if I'm voting and see an excellent shot of a spider, I may say 'Ewwww, I hate spiders, but great comp/lighting/atmosphere'. Conversely, I love horses, but if I see a crappy shot of a horse I may say 'Lovely horse but slightly blurry, crop too tight' or whatever is technically wrong with it.

And the scrubber is, I think, a piece of software embedded in the site that searches out and eliminates votes from people who a) haven't cast enoug votes to count, must vote on 20% of all pics in a challenge in order for your vote to count; and I believe it also watches for suspicious voting patterns, ie 'friend' voting...say my neighbour, who joined the site through me, and has seen my pic for this competiton, gave only my pic a 10 and everyone else a 1. You can be sure his votes would be scrubbed!

Unfortunately I'm not getting much sleep either, only about two hours yesterday and have been working since 9:30 last night and am now just getting into a motel at noon.

Thanks for defining troll as applied here. I guess my submission doesn't rate their attention as it has been 4.9 followed by three digits everytime I have checked it. I thought I was going to clear 5 when it got to 4.9950, but alas it dropped back down to 4.9610, which is about where it is most of the times I have checked it.

I'll start voting when I get up, and hopefully finish up when I get home tomorrow. Now let's see, 1 is outstanding and 10 means it sucks? ;-)

James, many of us started well below 5 when we first joined too, and being at 4.6 territory for a first challenge entry is really very respectable. I broke 5 in my 3rd challenge then wallowed around in the 4s and 3s for a good long time before seeing 5 again. So no fear, be open to criticques and I find that if at least 50% of your comments make the same basic criticque, ie 'blurry' or 'oof' were my bugaboos..then take them to heart, take lots of pix and learn how to improve. No shortage of tutorials here.

And as for voting...ohhh yes yes yes, oh very much yes, and mine REALLY sucks, so PLEASE give it a 10 so it can continue its well-deserved plummet from high of 5.8015 to 5.6574...I would LOVE to break 5.3...:-)

My score has been dropping today. It dropped a bit yesterday but recovered somewhat. Not today, just slowly and steadily downward. I was sure it was going to finish nicely over 6, but now I quite doubt it will.

Trust me when I say my score may as well be a 10 as far as I am concerned. As I said before, I'm not a photographer so to be where I'm at is much more than I could hope for. I have received four comments, three I found helpful, the other one, which ironically was yours, I don't understand. My intent is to PM you after the voting is complete and ask you what you meant so I can understand it and then tick the 'found helpful' box, as I have no doubt your criticism is meant to be constructive.

Anyway, I managed to vote on all the entries, except mine which oddly enough I wasn't allowed to, go figure, eh? I made a few comments, and hope I didn't offend anyone. (Hmmm, three have already come back as helpful, including two of my 10s...I see I'm not the only one checking out my score!) I doled out three 10s, one each of 9 and 8, the rest running between 7 and 3. My average vote cast is 6.1643, so hopefully I haven't been too harsh.

Pleased with the 6+ for sure but I had higher hopes. Several comments pointed me as to why I am not scoring higher and oddly enough it was not an aspect I thought of before hand but now I see plain as day. Excellent challenge overall though and I just feel good to be participating in this one.
