sarah, i'm so sorry to hear about your prince caspian. that really sucks. i hope he's not in too much pain.

Sara I am so sorry to hear that. :( I lost my Siron in December similarly, and I am still not ready for another pet. It is so sad to hold them and cry with them and know that it is up to you do decide when to have it done...it is a shame they cannot tell you what they want to have done. All you can do is hold him and love him and let him know that his final days or hours are filled with love, and that he made a difference in your life. I feel for you.

Thanks guys, for the messages of support - he was definitely happier this morning, had a little food, and even gave himself a bit of a wash. I'm not going to allow him to get any iller than this though.
It seems somehow wrong to experience grief at the passing of a pet - to be honest what I feel is equal to how I felt when my father died; I guess the difference is that whilst the grief may be as intense in the immediate short-term, it doesn't last in the same way, but turns to sadness much more quickly. Does that make sense? |

Personally, I think the answer is simpler than that. Pets are family. We can get attached to them as much as anyone else. |

Sara, there is absolutely nothing wrong with grieving for a pet as much as you would a human...I know I will be a total mess for a good long time when it's Octopussy's time to gon (which he says won't be for a long time if he can help it)...he has been with me over 12 years now through all kinds of good and bad stuff.
Give Caspian a scratch behind his ears for me. *HUGS*

Sara, so sorry to hear of the troubled times you are going through. I still remember how sad it was when Lola went away (our male lop-eared house bunny). We have reminders of the good times with him now ... those good memories are great to smile with. And he's in a much better place and state of health now.

I understand what you are feeling because I had to do this in November. We had Barney for almost 12 years. He was my first child :) It's a hard thing to go thru.
Sara, there's no right or wrong here. No one can justify an emotion. I think your grief is an example of the depth of your compassion. Let him go knowing that you both shared a great bond of love. Big hugs to you. |

OK so I am considering a compact to act as a backup and/or replacement for my 20D. Basically the 20D is great, but it's too bulky and not weatherproof enough to carry around all the time. So I reckon I need a quality compact to go alongside, that I can keep with me. That way I might actually enter a challenge this year :D
So any ideas for compacts? Preferably something flexible and quality. The Canon G9 is probably out price-wise, the Ricoh R8 is a contender. |
