I reached a bit of a milestone last week with my camera. The software automatically created a new folder on the flashcard and started numbering from the beginning again: DSC00001.jpg, DSC00002.jpg etc.

This means than in 13 months, I've taken 10000 shots (including the rubbish ones I deleted immediately). That might seem like a lot to some, but I bet it's nothing compared to some of you.

What's the most someone's shot in, say, a year or a month?

Pfff, well I do this for a living so it doesn´t really compare but I shoot about 6-8000 a month but congrats on the milestone :)

My record "per day" occurred when I spent an entire day shooting a soccer tournament. I averaged approximately 600 images per team, shooting 30-minute halves of 12 teams. I ended up with a little over 7200 images.

Last Saturday, I was shooting a color guard competition. I think I got a new record (for me) in terms of number of shots per hour. I shot 4400 pictures (using two cameras, I had a PocketWizard remote in my left hand) in just 3 hours. Each time was on the floor for only 3-5 minutes. I averaged about 230 pictures per team (19 teams) in those 3-5 minutes.

The PW thing was kind of cool. I set the Canon 5D up on a tripod with a wide angle lens so that it could see the whole floor. Meanwhile, I was holding the Mark III with the 70-200 2.8L lens so that I could get close ups. So I would hold the camera with my right hand, and with my left hand I would support the lens and zoom in and out ... while using the thumb of my left hand to fire the 5D via the PW.

I might have been tempted to be lazy and put the PW on the 5D hot-shoe and trigger the other camera at the same time as the one you were using, then hit the test button to do additional shots as needed ?

There were scenes where I wanted to see the whole team in action ... like when they are in formation, or when all of them through the flags (or rifles, or swords) into the air at once. Those were the kinds of shots I was going for with the 5D. And often, during those moments, closeups didn't make a lot of sense because one individual out of the team didn't mean a lot. Other times.... I was wildly shooting both cameras at once! lol

I've been averaging about 1800-1900 images per month since September (when I upgraded to the EOS 40D. At that rate, my annual total may well be over 22000 shots.

Once this year progresses more, I'm thinking my weekly count will settle into the 100-200 shots per week, instead of the current 450-500 per week (due to my "season").

I'm well behind you guys at an average of 5000 shots per year (which must explain why I haven't entered many challenges) but that is way more than I ever shot before I bought a DSLR and got back into photography in Jan '06.

This post made me want to go look....

On 4 hard drives I have 274,869 images (countless have been deleted)

The oldest ones date to almost 3 years ago (Earlier ones were archived to CDs).

So, in the last 3 years I have averaged approximately 91,623 images per year or 7,635 images per month. I need to go shoot something. :)

12,000 for every 3 months. Semi-pro.
