I'll be in Sydney for two days next week and hope someone can recommend a nice hotel in a good central location to get aroudn and see Sydney proper. I'll be in Perth for a week and I am taking two days to see and explore Sydney (first time) on my way out.
Thanks in advance.

I stayed here in Sydney in 2002. Pretty good location. The reviews look a bit mixed on that site. It was OK for my purposes though, just somewhere to sleep ;-)
Sorry I'm not a great deal of help, I'm sure someone will have a better idea than me.
ETA: that one is near the railway station, there's also (as I recall) a shuttle bus service straight from the airport.

Depends a lot on what you mean by a nice hotel. The last two times I've been in Sydney I stayed at the W at Woolloomooloo which was great, but a bit out of the way. We walked from there to the bridge/ opera house etc but it was a few miles along the bay. The Westin in the old GPO building is also great and a more central location. Stayed there once for New Year. Handy for the Rocks area and not too far a walk to most of the other interesting parts. Both good hotels with some character.

Hey Tommy, I can't help you with your search but if you get chance to pop back and let us know where you ended up staying and whether you recommend it or not that would be cool! Our 'BIG' Aus/NZ trip is quite some time away but it's always good to hear from someone who's actually stayed somewhere they would tell their friends to go to! :o) |

I stayed at the Wentworth location, was pretty pleased with the room and the hotel was close enough to everything I wanted to see. Then again, I am not afraid of walking around...
eta: I do not believe that the US Travelodge chain and this Travelodge have anything in common...
