A pattern is a simple definition. Something that repeats itself at least three times in IMO

Dont get why people are being so harsh on this.

And there in itself is the problem. "IMO" unfortunately does not completely align itself with the dictionary opinion and therefore the rationale you have described wins as you cast the vote and the dictionary, which is much more precise, does not. IMO

That would be a 'repeating pattern' Most of your definition seems to be about the 'repeating' bit, rather than what a pattern is.

That's where I got stuck with the definition of pattern. A pattern in my mind isn't strictly something of the same exact size repeating itself, though that also may be part of a pattern or a full pattern itself. For example, take these animal patterns //www.istockphoto.com/file_closeup/mammals/cats/wild_cats/2633212_seamless_animal_patterns.php?id=2633212

I meant that a pattern to me is something can repeat itself but doesnt have to be identical , size or in the same order.

It just has to be in some sort of sequence.

For example, I see a pattern of Gordon getting off on correcting people on this site. ;)

Patterns, shmatterns. It was a boring entry for me and a boring score to match. Not bad, not good. The update button is fun again. It's been a while. :)

Well, it's still lower than I thought it would do. However, a positive comment from a high scorer with some tenure here tells me that my entry probably is as good as I thought it was.

You might be right about that! My degree is in mathematics, so geometry, symmetry, patterns and other abstract concepts are what I "see" best -- even if I fall short photographically depicting them sometimes...

Thanks for the kind words. Front page? Wouldn't that be nice! I still can't imagine it, but stranger things have happened, I guess. This one's going to be a nailbiter.. .

I've got my votes in on Peeps and I'll be voting this one next. I may try to do a 100% vote and comment on this one because the voting appears to be so low, at least for those of us that watch this thread. I am curious to see if my own votes and comments are in line with what everyone has been getting.

I must have accidentally entered the yo-yo challenge.

Both comments are "week", no constructive criticism or helpfulness.

So I have to smite them, hard, right between the eyes? I "thought" this was direct, straighforward, impactful. Guess I'd better turn it up some more! (Tim Allen grunt heard in background) MORE POWER!!!

German dark chocolate?? I'm off to give Deb's picture the very high score it deserves!

While my shot is hanging around 5.3-5.4. Evidently the pattern in the main subject just isn't enough.

Hey where's my German Dark Chocolate? lol

What you meant was weak. Don't worry, be happy. :)

Yikes. This is a pattern I see frequntly, and I love. I even thought the shot turned out well in composition and color and clarity. At least I came back up above 5. But I still think this deserves a spot on my front page.

Wow. In the space of a few minutes, a "10", to push it up barely over 5...then a "2", to bring me back to reality. Incredible. Gotta love it, though. I'm learning to just ride along, pick up some ideas, and have fun.

You have rated 21 of 290 images (7%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 22 images (8%) in this challenge.
You have given an average score of 5.3810.

Starting to make my way through them.
Had to skip voting on one because I saw the entry on his Flickr page last week. Still left a comment though. I'm curious if my remarks are lining up with the votes people have been getting. I've received votes ranging from a 2 to 9 within the last couple of hours.

well I finally got 2 comments. Neither of them were too terribly complimentary. One liked the shot but just not for the challenge. One didn't like it at all. If it stays where it is at score wise it would still be my personal best with this being the 4th challenge I've entered so I guess I can't complain. Truthfully I wasn't satisfied with it myself and didn't expect to be doing this well especially after looking at the other entries.

You guys have made me hungry for German Chocolate and I'm going to make one myself. Your all welcome to a piece.

In my comments all the intelligent and tallented people are complimenting the patterns. All the dummies are saying DNMC. ;-P
