my walmart was open today. I already had peeps, so I'm in...I could have picked up a ton more today if I wanted. |

And yet some people say they LIKE these things! |
Ever wonder why your Glossette peanuts and raisins are glossy? Your chocolate-covered almonds? Your apples? Carnauba wax! :)
(next time you're produce-shopping, try scraping a fingernail lightly over a nice, shiny apple)

Yes, I was aware about waxing apples (which I is why I peel them) and other things, but it never occurred to me that these sugary little critters could be waxed, too.
I have never eaten anything that surprised me with that "petroleum" taste like the peeps did. |

I went to the market this AM for fresh veggies for Easter dinner, came home, logged in, saw the challenge... Sigh.... So I started the lamb, then drove back out to CVS... The Peeps shelves were virtually denuded, but there were a few peeps left... So I am in, for better or for worse...
Peep have mercy on us...

CVS was my savior as well. We had Peeps in the house, but just the wrong critter for what I wanted to do. I have a Safeway and a CVS about a half mile from my house, so I just went to both as part of my morning run. The Safeway was out of the critter I needed. CVS had my critter in two flavors colors.

I'm in.
I may have to be sick, since I ate a bunch of my models. The rest are in the freezer for a later peep fest. |

I'm sure it wasn't the wax, since it's not a petroleum product, but I know there's something in 'em that makes 'em gross! |

I had a flash of inspiration, so I Went back to Wally world to get another prop from the toy department. I can't believe they did not have what I needed. Oh well. I looked around the house and found more inspiration.
I've got my entry in. This is gonna be another fun challenge.

I'm in and it better be appreciated. This took FOREVER to set up and Easter dinner ended up taking a back seat to this production today.
I had no problem finding an assortment of peeps at Walgreens and two CVS's. The shopping problem was that Michael's was closed so I couldn't get all the props that I wanted for my idea.
No matter, hours later the entry is in. Now to see if it was all worth it. |

Well I'm in. I discovered however that my preferred brand of peep shots really needs more that advanced editing allows. The little guys are not terribly cooperative on their own.
I'm happy to see so many folks jumping into the sub-culture of peep photography.
Good luck to all.

I have to say after having looked at all the entries that in my DPC experience, that is one of the most creatively submitted challenges I've seen. The average quality seems excellent and very little (or nil) duplication of ideas - and lots and lots of brilliant humour. A really fun one to vote on. Grats DPC!
I also REALLY want to try a box or two of those things...I've been sitting there drooling like a hungry puppy over each one. All that sugar and colouring must be fun :)
