I voted my number 1 for the challenges. Even though I don't enter a lot of them. Number 2 community and 3 for learning. Used to come here for the cheese but the soup guy tells me we can't have that anymore. :( I like pretty Roses too, but I usually get pricked by their thorns! ;)
So I settle for the art of Art |

I agree with the OP, If the radio buttons can't be changed to check boxes easy, Why not just add one more choice All of the Above ? |

If you have more that one reason, please pick the main reason.
If we put all of the above, too many people would pick that for the poll to have any meaning, plus it would still exclude the people that come for some but not all of the above reasons.

So what is the point then if you already know in advance that the results are not going to be accurate ? Seems like time wasted to me. |

yes, its a poll on a web site. Was there some confusion ? :) Mind you, it is interesting that basically half the people are here with a bias towards the challenge and half are here with a bias towards learning. It describes and explains the essential dichotomy and conflict of the site.

I prefer the term "train wreck" to meltdown...
...and since that's one of the reasons I come here today is a "Happy Day"!

The point is to get people's PRIMARY reasons, for which the poll will be reasonably accurate as written.

That's why I suggested to allow and limit the voter to two, maybe three selections maximum.

That's simply not possible without substantial changes to the site code.

I'm a computer programmer and that sounds a lot like an excuse to not fix the problem. <Les runs and hides...>

My excuse is that the Site Council does not have access to code.
As to the poll, we're looking for each respondent to provide their primary reason, not their top few reasons. We don't need 2-3 selections and a code rewrite to accomplish that, plus there are better uses of Langdon's time sitting idle on the project list.

I think that should be explained above or below the poll rather then in this forum, Anyone who does not read this thread is not going to be aware that they should choose their primary reason. Just a thought.
ETA: easy fix change question to, What is your primary reason for coming to DPC?'

Shoot. Not at all sure of which is my primary reason, not even if it is "other." Question is How, MORE PRECISELY, are the results to be used? Sounds so far as if someone wants to know if it is the challenges as opposed to any one or more of the other options. Not a poll fan. |

Now, Muckpond said earlier today:
it's really just a fun poll, and we're not going to be able to change it to checkboxes very easily. i'm really happy that so many of you have more than one reason to visit the site.
i would just pick the main reason in the poll, but feel free to leave other thoughts in this thread.
And now, Terry, you are saying:
As to the poll, we're looking for each respondent to provide their primary reason, not their top few reasons. We don't need 2-3 selections and a code rewrite to accomplish that, plus there are better uses of Langdon's time sitting idle on the project list.

Oh, dear. Terry, you know I donât usually contribute to controversial discussions. (But)
Either this is a light-hearted poll âwhere everyone expresses an opinionâ
Or
Itâs a serious poll, âwhere THE right answer counts.â (Which brings up another question: âWhy?â)
In any event, we should be able to say, either (#1) in the poll, or (#2) in this thread, what about DPC matters to us.
Since Langdon put the poll up then Langdon is putting his time on this project. Therefore he has chosen this as a âgood use of his timeâ. Thus, it doesnât matter if itâs a fun or serious poll. Langdon has made this his project.
BTW,The poll may or may not want to know this, but I wish it did: I came five years ago because of the Challenges. I stayed because of everything else.
