What on earth made them decide to go down this path?

3rded. Although I will give the benefit of the doubt and assume that the original intention was totally innocent.

It does not make much sense from any point of view. Either as Rob said the photo may be fine on it's own already, or from another perspective if someone tried their best to succeed and got the brown, they might be happy with it as is, or it might be a source of embarrassment for them and they do not deserve to be mocked.

Here's a thought for you Susan......"The more men I meet, the more I love my _________".

Fill in the blank with horse, cat, dog, ficus, or whatever suits the mood! LOL!!!

Agreed - I won't be entering this, as it seems both cruel and somewhat arrogant.

I hate to be contrary but...

wait I actually get a kick out of being contrary sometimes...

I think brown-ribbon-deja-vu is a cool idea. I love the idea of the DPC hottentots being forced to emulate the brown ribbons in order to win their blue ribbons.

I'm going for the brown in that challenge.

Single yet again. Same old story. Latest bf said he wants a profound relationship, and only 5 weeks in?! Am I crazy or is that not rushing it? I thought the clingy needy role in a relationship was supposed to be the girl's role :-) In this case it ain't.

And on Valentine's Day no less.

Shame. Mind you, I got engaged 5 weeks in to the relationship, so I don't know if I'm a good judge of rushing in or not.Is it spineless to propose after 35 days ?

Yeah, though I suspect its going to be an attempt to 'fix' particular subjects in brown ribbons to make them more 'acceptable'. Title, subject and then 'better' photo.

This could be an opportunity for a full frontal assault of TS commenters with insightful and comprehensive commenting.

I think this would be cool. I've never got a brown ribbon so now's my chance, cause I know that if I pick the right one it could happen.

Wow, last time I had this many comments was when they were all DNMC when I was 1 away from a Brown ribbon!

My only real complaint about the re-browning challenge is that I can't re-shoot my own brown ribbons.

I would love an excuse to retake this photo :

This is the problem; if it was simply described as the blue ribbon "deja vu" challenge was (ie, try to recreate), it would not have bothered me; I would have entered. Instead, look at the challenge description, which I read as saying just what Gordon suspects (pretty clearly, I might add):

Originally posted by challenge description:

Find a brown ribbon winner, and try to turn that entry into a entry that is excellent.

This does not include disqualified photo's, or your own Brown ribbons.

Try to turn that entry into a entry that is excellent.

In addition to missing the beauty in the browns, as Ernie pointed out it's also insulting to the photographers who shot the browns on so many levels.

And thus my annoyance, oh much exalted one!

Bruce

/edited to add/
Of course we can shoot to recreate browns in the spirit in which they were intended; but the point is that DPC has again missed the notion that some of those images are delicious as is, and making an "excellent" photograph of them will do nothing more than ruin them.
/end edit/

Maybe as a protest us Suckers could pick blue ribbon winners and "fix" them?? that would be fun!

ETA as we all know, you cannot be DQ'd for not meeting the challenge....

I understand your objections, but I see the "excellent" as an attempt at appeasement in what is otherwise an inherently subversive challenge. "Excellent" doesn't bother me overmuch (though I agree it would be better gone), because it is open to interpretation.

No challenge will be ideal for the underground, by the very nature of "underground." However, certain challenges are more open to be influenced by underground ideas. This is one of them. NikonJeb has one good strategy: comments. Another is by submitting our own entries with our own idea of excellence in tow.

Its a personal shame that it is under the wrong rule set for my current subversive activities.

I do wonder what brown ribbons need advanced editing.

Could you go all Andy Goldsworthy with an incontinent dog and really create a worthy brown ribbon entry ?

For what it's worth, you're welcome to play around with any of my brown ribbons. I'm not sure if I have a thick skin or if I just regard insults as conversation, either way I'll get over it.

If you create a structure of icicles and leaves protruding from his back, maybe so....

Gordon - why no portfolio? Other than your blog (which is delightfully enjoyable to read) is there another location to browse?

Most recent stream without much structure or organisation. Well there's structure in terms of sets I suppose. There's a lot of real junk in there, recently.

An older disorganised mess

This is a really cool site. If you type photo in the search, there are some cool crazy pics.
They have notes and stuff that people have found and sent in. Interesting!

Not only do I agree that most of the questions left me thinking "depends," but I'm also three days late to the conversation. That counts for something, right? Oh, and I was 45% left, 55% right. And right handed. I also like walks in the rain on the beach at midnight drinking pina coladas.

On other topics, like ice in February and people walking near me ... yes, you know where this is going ... a friend slipped and fell 50 feet in front of me on Tuesday, cracking her head on pavement. No concussion, but a nice black eye for the effort.

And noraneko's inbound - we're going shooting tomorrow. :)

cool... just don't invite Dick Cheney!

On another note, I have uploaded a wonderful photo of myself in my portfolio. LOL Strangely enough I do not even remember this being taken.

i just would like to invite you all to my exhibition
which starts tomorrow
at the main train and metro station in oslo.
:D
i'm going to hang some of my photos there later tonight.
i'm really nervous, though i can't explain why.
it would be great if you could come here!
just tell me if you are planning a trip to oslo the next two months:)
i'd love to meet you here!
