I think since flickr seems to be refusing to remove your photo from their servers that perhaps they should be held accountable. Send Yahoo an invoice.

Is there anything to gain by posting someone else's work as your own on Flickr?

| Perhaps it's time that DPC really started considering auto-watermarking images...? |

i think most of the time people just like the photos and want to make themselves a copy. for most of the pictures i see on dpchallenge, the users' photostreams consist of wallpapers, icons, etc.
i dont think they are claiming to have shot the photos, they're just creating a "stream" of them. |

I've been suggesting that for sooooo long. Seems many don't want their images mucked up, yet a lynch mob forms when images end up elsewhere. I gave up requesting & suggesting this and do it myself, as my words are usually ignored round these parts. Wish I could mark my challenge pics. |

Thanks....I keep doing them in the vain hope people will stop. Someone mailed me back along the lines of "sorry, i really liked it and didn't know it was wrong" but otherwise that's been it. I think some images the authors have been deleting my comments - and these are the bastards to nail...

No. No noise, but I think the Ouija board moved. |

Because their goal is not to steal the photo or claim credit but to simply say, "hey, look what I found!"
At least that's my take. I'm in there and I'm personally not too bothered by it. If someone was claiming they took the shot, that would get me riled.

i agree completely. they are not pretending to have taken the shot, just showing people something they found and liked. kind of like pasting an article in a forum. |

The thing with it being on Flickr as "just showing it off" is it is downloadable, and could be for sale or used as profit by some unscrupulous person. I thought Virgin pulled something from there and used it in an ad last year...?

What if DPChallenge teamed up with a digital watermarking company such as Digimarc, which is in the business of digital watermarking (the kind that is hidden from view)? Imagine being able to go to the upload page and choosing the option to embed a hidden digital watermark that you can then later track anywhere on the web?
Now, as an individual you can go buy Digimarc's product and tracking subscription but it would make a lot of sense for DPC to offer it here to everyone. Not only would it most likely result in a price break for each individual but it would also be a great selling point to attract more memberships for the site.
Granted, this does nothing for stolen images used offline but I think this would still be a great great add.
