Day 28....come on people - we're almost done !!!

I'm often accused of living in front of the PlayStation. I must confess to spending even more time than normal on it, as I got a couple of new games recently. Played around with contrast and Lucis Arts, possibly not to that great an effect, it has to be said.

Great day at the shelter today: I got to play with puppies, kittens and baby bunnies; the rabbit who was scared witless was taken by a rescue group instead of ... well, a much worse fate; the chicken presented us with 3 eggs; and I got hugs from my favorite Siamese cat. Short of winning the lottery I can't ask for much more ;-)

Warning: extreme cuteness for Day 28 -

Sorry that I dropped off the face of the January side challenge. I was frantically trying to do work, gym, and start AND finish two quilts in two weeks. I have shot (once in a while) and I might pop in at the end again.

I've had such a crappy two days! These sort of lifted my spirits and I thought the pictures kind of made a nice rebus.

If there is one thing beside cactus that Phoenix has, its palm trees. These three are right outside the gate to where I work. I hope this cheers up you folks who are struggling through winter.

This tree, which is familiar to some of you, is another subject of my obsession.

It would be wrong for me not to put up a real portrait after the one with the hands.

days 25 and 26

day 23 ..
many apologies for not having commented in days ..
i've been away for the first time in years .. up to the sunshine coast, queensland ..
me and greg saw shez sherpet and her husband pete, while we were there and went to the australian zoo ... its a fantastic place to see the animals and to take PHOTOGRAPHS .. !!!!! ..
i didnt have internet except when i visited shez ..
i made a comment in shez's thread 'guess who came to dinner' and another time i used the internet to enter a photograph in the 'bird' challenge .. just before getting the plane home .. MISTAKE !!!

this next bit is me having a whinge and moan .. dont feel you have to read it .. its just helped me writing it and knowing some ppl will read it and may sympathise !! ..
i'd processed the bird that morning at 2am on greg's laptop, hurrying ..
computer crashing out all the time coz the laptop couldnt handle the bigger files ..
couldnt really process it properly coz monitor settings were totally different to my home computer ..
i had decided on a bird flying for the challenge, so i dont even understand why i ended up processing the one i did ..
i just couldnt think, probably coz of the computer crashing out all the time and feeling hurried ..
i put the really bad photograph with a terrible process in the challenge at shez's .. i didnt realise it was so bad at the time because i couldnt see it properly on the different monitors ..
i was going to unsubmit when we walked past an internet place at the sydney terminal 20 minutes before it went in for voting coz i had a bad feeling ..
i think i might be going to get a brown ribbon for this one .. NO JOKE .. its sitting at 4.8
when i got home and had a look on my computer i was dumstruck .. its the worst image ever .. it totally deserves a 4.8 or even less .. and there's no way i'd have even processed that photograph on my computer ..

i'm in shock from this bird challenge fiasco .. which is why i've gone on so much here .. i think you guys are the only ones who'd understand the intensity of my feelings over this one .. family just dont get it ..
my overall average is dropping like a bomb .. i'd do a self dq, but i'v just done that on my bokeh which i put in the 'best of 2007' .. which was another mistake .. but it was doing heaps better than my bird ..
i'm considering entering the free study for the month in an attempt to repair the bird damage .. but the competition is pretty fierce in a free study so i might even make it worse .. aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh !!

anyway .. these photographs were taken just before we got on the plane in the terminal at sydney domestic airport and then on the approach to maroochydore airport, sunshine coast ..
we really had a brilliant time away, its was just excellent seeing shez and pete, but getting home to the bird news was a real downer ..
dont feel obliged to comment on all of them .. its just a photographic record of the trip up .. the east coast of australia counting as where i live .. sort'v ..

just some more of the beauty of this desolate place! Wish I could post pics of the people, but cameras not allowed in the hosptal, and I really don't go anywhere else inhabited! I am planning to attend a PowWow this weekend, (I was invited by one of my patients) and hoping to get the ISO and the light right to have that event be the piece de resistance of this trip!!

Day 29 is yucky and gray, so here's a shot I stashed away for just such an occasion towards the end of the challenge:

I think my house is kind of a boring box without much character, but it's surrounded by the many things I have planted over the years and those I enjoy. I am allergic to most of them, but never mind, that's why God invented Benadryl ;-)

Guys and gals,
I have to bail out early here so I am posting 3 taken yesterday to finish out the 31 days. My stepdaughter is having brain surgery and we must leave for Los Angeles to be with her. I promise to catch up with comments when I get back.

Thanks for the great side challenge. It has been a ton of fun. I truly appreciate all the comments and it was great to see where everyone lives.
Happy Shootin',
Dawn

I wouldn't worry too much about comments! I pray that everything goes well with your stepdaughter!

This is a view from just outside our back door. Just past the pergola you can see in the middle of the frame is the pond. After that there is a small lawn area with borders and then an archway (over which is draped the grapevine), which leads to the final lawn area and then a little utility area, the fence of which supports the raspberries and where the compost heaps are.

There is not that much grassed area per se, but the fact that it's all bitty and I've got to run out extension leads meant that it always took a good couple of hours to cut the grass. We get gardeners to do that bit now and get on with the weeding and pruning ourselves. We stopped the gardeners from 'pruning', as they were using a brushcutter for the purpose and they were no good at weeding, as they were actually afraid to crawl around behind and underneath the shrubs. Through the pergola, you might just be able to make out the shrub that I've trimmed into a spherical shape, all on my own. I'm rather proud of that. The project for this year is to graft together branches of two of the apple trees at the end and make an archway. I don't hold out a lot of hope for success on that one.
