LOVE mine. LOVE LOVE LOVE. Clear enough? :)
The SLR version is good for a big point-and-shoot. I've taken loads of shots with it, like these:
The SLR-ZOOM version handles my D200 (not a lightweight camera) and Tamron 17-50 just fine. In fact, my two current entries were taken with that combo, along with this:
I just tried my SLR-ZOOM version with my 70-200, which is a beast of a lens, on my D200. I attached it to the tripod collar on the lens. It stood up on a flat surface fine with a little care to position the legs right. It also held onto a vertical shelf post with no trouble, and I could position the camera at wacky angles. One nice thing is that the SLR-ZOOM version comes with a ball head, which makes precise positioning MUCH easier.
Aside from using them to shoot from railings, chair backs, etc., plus "normal" flat surfaces, it's also very useful as a way of bracing the camera on your chest, using your whole body to steady the camera in low light.
I also use them to hold up my point-and-shoots so I can use them as flashes when my normal tripod is holding my D200. For example, in this one, the smaller camera was hanging off the edge of my bathroom door because I wanted the flash to come from up high:
