That's what I've read. Though it's still not clear whether "views" is actually on their screen or just in their search results. I would imagine the former, as it counts toward a click-through-rate. |

I've just been accepted / Qc'ed into Alamy.
Got high-speed internet installed and got the whole upsizing thing figured out (I think).
Now time to get out there and take some more photos.
Very keen to start getting more than $0.30 a download. And I don't think my content is that applicable to what goes on the microstock sites anyway.

Well, I applied to Alamy and got accepted back in February of this year. Time for an update. I didn't really go too nuts with submitting until they opened up the upload feature, so I've really only been seriously contributing since maybe late July or early August. Up to about 750 images, only 500 or so are keyworded. Had my first sale on December 7 for $144. Certainly makes me feel better about pulling out of the micros.

Well I've just sold my fifth image in the last six months. And got a check for $266 for the first two! That's with just 88 images on file. Since then, I uploaded another 50. I'm looking forward to seeing what Alamy can do for me in 2008. ;) |

I almost always add a little sharpening, its such a part of my workflow I usually don't even think about it. Never had a rejection with Alamy.

Hi All,
Quick question - I am just starting to learn to shoot in RAW and have a couple of questions about Alamy.
Can you use Photoshop Elements (3) to process your files and interpolate? Or do you need to get another software program like Genuine Fractals? I have a 8MP camera.
Does Alamy prohibit having photos not submitted to Alamy on other stock sites? Particularly microstock?
Thanks.

| ive never used element, doest it use adobe camera raw? If so, use it to do your upsizing and then it will be upsized as opened om elements.

The rules are clearly stated in their contributor agreement..........
Under this contract the Contributor has the right to:
1. Control country, usage, media type and industry in which their Images are available for use by Customers (this applies to Traditionally Licenced images and not to Royalty-Free images or Novel Use Licences).
2. Control, subject to clause 4(b), whether each Image they submit is displayed as a Traditionally Licenced (with or without Rights Protection) or Royalty-Free, and in either case whether their Images are available for Novel Use Licences.
3. Delete any Images after one hundred and eighty (180) days notice, subject to the section entitled "Pricing and Promotion", clause (d).
4. Update the System, and must do so in respect of any sale on exclusive terms not made via the Alamy System.
5. Supply their Images on a non exclusive basis and may therefore sell their Images in any other way they wish.
6. Set their own prices for their Images if the Contributor is a Royalty-Free agency (subject to clause 12(a)-(c) but not for Novel Use Licences)

Congrats and good luck!! I have about 35 images on Alamy with another 10-15 awaiting QC right now. Still waiting for my first sale. Getting impatient, as I have stopping uploading to Dreamstime in favor of Alamy. |

It is real easy to get impatient with stock sales, however, Stock is a numbers game, the more you have the more you will be noticed. Don't expect a lot of sales till you have 1000+ shots on any stock site.

I haven't posted for awhile so I'll just update you all, if you care.
My Alamy portfolio is over 700 images now. I really like the batch upload feature. I have 3 batches of about 30 images each pending.
Of the first 650 images about 50% were licensed and 50% RF. In one year I had 3 sales; 2 licensed and 1 RF. I made $49 profit from the 2 licensed sales, and $88 profit from the 1 RF sale, for a grand total of $137. Of course I have not received a penny yet, I need $250 for pay out. As the RF sale paid much better, I have been submitting RF only.
Bottom line- So far Alamy has been a lot of work for nothing!

yeah they do get some good sales sometimes, but I am still more in favor of the micros. I have had about 15 sales in the last few years but the $/picture/year ratio is still lower than the microstock sites. It feels good to get a sale for a few hundred or even a thousand dollars, but it feels even better to have a good monthly income like the micros provide (contrary to popular belief)

I almost forgot about my Alamy account, decided to check it today and lo and behold made my first sale way back in October! This Image appeared on a 1/8 page front cover for some editorial women's issues magazine in the UK. :) I only have 59 photos on there, incentive for me to get to work on my thousands of pics sitting on my hard drives!

Anyone in the UK seen this Photo on the front page of a magazine between October 5th and October 12th? Just curious to know which magazine.

I`ve noticed on alamy a new checkbox that says, Does this picture contain property that needs a release?
Would photos of a pier like this or pics like these need property releases? I`m guessing yes, but if that`s the case i can`t think of any situation where you wouldn`t need a release except for pics in your own home.
Should i click yes just to be on the safe side? |

I'd say yes for the first one (easily identifiable, single building in private ownership) , yes for the third one (if you clone out or change the numbers, it is depending on how much of those planes exist), and yes for the second one, unless you clone out the names and numbers on the boats |

Thanks eye.
It`s strange because alamy won`t take say the worthing pier photo for royalty free without a property release but istock, shutterstock, dreamstime will.
But i can`t/won`t go licenced at alamy and RF somewhere else.
Also on the RF micros as long as there is not an identifiable human face it`s ok, yet on alamy even a little toe needs a model release.
Anyway i`ve made 3 sales and hit the $250 dollar payout limit :) |

This might help a bit. //www.sirimo.co.uk/media/UKPhotographersRights.pdf
I wouldn't put a 'needs property release' on those first two, looks like you took them in a public place. |
