Ah! A *real* skier!!!
I hesitate to ask, but are the boards near 200cm?
I ski on 200s for slalom & moguls, and well.....longer for powder and stability.
But I'm big and I'm old school......my skis and boots are all chopped up on the insides from being together all the time. |
The longest you could get with these particular twin tips (for spinning purposes) is 180 cm. I would personally like 185 to about 190 with mine. |

Some people were asking about my picture from Single Light Source:
Yes it was one of my dogs dressed up for Halloween.
Here are the two together when they first got dressed up:
It's the "Dread Pirate Roberts" and "Princess Buttercup" (silly thing is they are both girls).
Ah, the joys of not having kids. :)
Cheers all. Hope to send out some comments later tonight. |

OK OK guess I better re-post the brownie recipe!! And I'm doing it from memory - Jeez! :-)
1 cup sugar
1/3 cup cocoa
2/3 cup flour
2 eggs
1/2 cup margarine/butter
1 tsp vanilla
3 tbsps liquid - not just water***
OPTIONAL 1/2 cup chopped nuts, fruit, candy, dog kibble, whatever-foreign-bodies-turns-your crank.
Sift together sugar, cocoa and flour. Add eggs, margarine, vanilla and H2O and beat on medium for 2 minutes, scraping down side of bowl. If including foreign bodies, fold them in now. Pour into greased 8' in cake pan. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes. Recipe can be doubled.
Now, I made a real kick-ass batch o' brownies by substituting Bailey's for the water - oh yum!!! I'm sure other liquers would do just as well,ie Drambuie and Grand Marnier...
Have fun and enjoy!

Will cooking oil do to make them moist and chewy?

You've been a member for four years. How come you've only entered 43 challenges. You can't suck if you don't play.

Oh Jeb Jeb Jeb . . . *sigh*
To get the absolute moistest, best tasting brownies, you absolutely MUST use real butter.

To me, margarine is not an option.

I was gone for two years serving a mission in Ohio, so I didn't have the time/means/or resources to get really involved, now I'm back full swing and ready to suck! |

What's "twin-tip" skiing? Me downhill nut, no speakie twin-tip.
Bruce ... errr ... rheverly, do some of the side challenges for a while. They're great for revving up the ol' creative juices and are all about focusing on one thing for an extended period.
As for Gordon, I vote we tie him down until he agrees to join us. His impressionism entry epitomized the TS attitude perfectly:
Lea, congrats on a beautiful image that was duly recognized by the fickle voters!
And everyone else: hiya! :) Guess where I am?

"twin tip" - downhill skis that have the tips upturned at both front AND back, instead of at only the front.

Ah, thanks. Are those trick skis, then, making it easier to spin and stuff? |

| Anyone have any idea why I can't change my profile pic? I put a new one in, made sure it was 120x90, hit save, but it won't change! It shows the new one in my preferences, but not on my profile. |

| I suspect powerfully envious ladies in the SC who put the mockers on it because the new pic's too pretty. |

| If the new pic is of someone's legs sticking out of a sofa, it does show as your profile pic. You are likely getting a "cached" version from your browser. :) |

Yeah, twin-tip skis are made for the terrain park, that way you can go off jumps switch (or backwards, of which I still find rather scary) or doing 180's and 540's off of jumps. It's kinda the skiers answer to snowboarding, but much MUCH cooler. Another cool thing is that the bindings are center-mounted so that spinning is even easier. They still make a good all around mountain ski (though it tends to struggle in powder). |

Hi all,
Thanks for all the kind words when I had my "DPC Meltdown" yesterday. I'll explain: I entered an image I really, really liked in the topless challenge. Yes, I know, it should be enough that I liked it, but here I also thought it was a "good" DPC image. I've clearly reached my DPC plateau: the highest image on my profile page is only .07 higher than the lowest there, which shows I'm bunching up around 6.3. I'm honestly not upset about that (not even a little), but I thought I had started to see what it took on DPC to get above 6, and while I didn't always do that (either on purpose or by mistake), I thought I was getting better at knowing when an image would perform a bit better. When one that I didn't think would do well did better (as with my Jebbing duotones entry), I was pleasantly surprised, but I had done pretty well at guessing where a shot might land.
So there is this image, I enter it, and yesterday I'm awake at rollover (I've had a cold for two+ weeks, and sometimes I just can't sleep in the morning). I saw the image go "live", get a few votes, and then I went to work, etc. etc. It didn't start out well, but I have learned to ignore 5 vote scores (good or bad), except to use them to complain about Jebbing. When I checked back later in the day, it was at 5.3 at around 20 votes (which for me is a pretty good test of overall range, at least from past experience; it might move +/- .3 from there, but not likely much more). Before I wrote the post, at around 30+ votes, it was below 5.1. Thus, my post.
Right now the image sits at 6.1 with 100 votes. In the past year that I've been here, I have never seen one of my images that was at 5.0 with 30 votes climb to 6.1 in the course of a day. It may not stay that high, but that's okay. At least I wasn't insane (about this, at least). This doesn't change everything for me; I don't expect to start suddenly entering all the challenges again, for example (I think my reaction alone shows that taking things a bit more easily would be a good idea), but I will feel "comfortable" coming around to Team Suck and generally engaging with photography.
I also should have mentioned -- knowing that I'm the first to chime in with "side challenge, do a side challenge" when someone's going through a rough spot -- that I simply don't have time for the daily posting and more importantly, the daily commenting, that a side challenge requires. I probably need to take things at my own pace for now, and really work on a project, something that I can sink my teeth into and really try to express myself with. And then, when opportunities to take shots that work in challenges come up, I'll take them, but I won't enter just to enter; I'll have another motivation for working with my camera (whatever my project may be).
Thank you all for all of your kindness. I honestly expected nothing less from the friends I have made here, and I was not in the slightest disappointed by your encouragement and support.
Now, about that smell Don and RobM were talking about . . .
Thanks again, all,
Bruce

Hey Bruce, it's definitely cold season - I caught one the day I landed in Afghanistan and still have the darn thing. Blah.
Anyway, glad going topless is working out better for you. I'm still convinced my duotone should be a top ten, but DPC voters have spoken and it shall not be. Ah well. Like you, I once thought I could tell these things, sorta. Like you, I have failed miserably at it enough times to know that I just don't know. And am considering entering a sub-5 in an upcoming challenge just to see if Don likes it. :-) |
