i got it! how about we propose a vote weight system...where the more you vote, the more your vote is worth...that way we will have less peolemaking names and trolling and most likely more people voting... for all new members for their first challenge voting their vote is worth .01 percent... then next challenge instantly to 1.00 after that every 300-500 votes your vote weight will be more say you vote 500 times nowyour vote is worth 1.05 votes and maybe by the end of te year, loyal voters will be worth a total of 2.5 votes maybe we could reset these every year or two or maybe never... and under out names in our profile we could have our ranks

OK, so wheres this great idea?

This could encourage people to just vote blindly to enhance their voting ranking for when it's really needed.

I think all this would do is have people racing through the challenges tossing out votes so they can rise in the ranks. I would much prefer a well thought vote (and possibly a comment) from someone who only makes the 20% minimum.

Well thought out comments are definitely nice.

however it encourages candy coating voting and cliques... (IMO of course)

What does this have to do with photography?

So why are we all canning on a new guy who has a possible idea (good or bad) for the question at least a half dozen threads have asked in the last week?

What in heaven's name is canning? Are we packaging him like tuna?

There's nothing wrong with offering dissenting opinions.

ummm, don't know about the canning, but he has been registered since 12/2003. How long do you have to be here to NOT be a new guy? (Granted, he has only become more active as of late, but he has been around for a while).

:) <---- make sure you see the grin.

The Doctor meant caning -- to beat with a slender stick -- so you can all acknowledge his point and get back on topic now ...

For what its worth, I cant see why someone would want to bolster their votes up just to get theirs to mean more.

Daily awards doesn't award weight based solely on voting. It's a little complex, but you earn the right to weight based on awards won. You then have to vote to be able to use the weight you've earned. Without awards, though, there's no weight, regardless of how much you vote.

This thread is about weight based purely on voting - vote more, have more weight.

That said, daily awards does its best to ferret out friend voting, biased voting, etc. just like DPC does.

I've participated on daily awards for more than a year, but I've more or less stopped because I don't like weights. I also don't think voting is the only way to contribute. I've never voted as much as I received on either site, but I do my best to answer questions, post tutorials, cheer people on, console them when they're down, and basically participate as much as possible ways other than voting.

And all of that said, I agree with the concern that anything based purely on voting will encourage random voting races instead of more thoughtful voting.

I think we should leave everything as is. That is, until we improve it. ;-)
