 Brad some very nice phots.... this is a very bad fire going on... you took some very nice photos... i hope and pray for the people how have lost... and hope for the best for them all in CA |

Just an update.
There was alot of damage @ Lombardi Ranch during the recent fire. The great news is that everybody got out safely, including the animals and nobody was hurt.
The even better news is that we are going to reopen the stand by this weekend and probably as early as tomorrow. The reopening will be small scale with pumpkin and produce sales as well as a train ride. For safety concerns most of the ranch will be off limits, but we will be open.
We want to say thanks to all of you for your calls and messages of support and help. Just about everybody we know in the SCV was in danger and evacuated sometime during the last few days and still you guys made time to check on our family. We are very lucky to have such a great group of friends and family. Your support and calls over the last few days have really helped to motivate the family to get Lombardi Ranch going again and not give up. YOU GUYS ARE AWSOME.

Man, it's such a small world. I'm sitting in Red Hawk as we speak. We came down to Disney for three days and are finishing out the rest of the week at my sister-in-law's house. There is a lot of smoke in the area and some fine ash, but I don't see much else. The interesting thing from a photography point of view is getting that red sunsetish quality to the light with the sun high in the sky. Not something you experience everyday. |

just finished browsing through Brad's fire collection. Fantastic work! I was assuming that police would not let anyone close to the fire zone (at least close enough to take good shots), so I didn't even try ... I was totally wrong apparently! Too late now :)
Look forward to seeing Brad's best shot in the photojournalism challenge soon!
(I am in University City part of SD, our neighborhood was not affected)

Yep, killer shots, Brad and good luck in the upcoming challenge. ;-)
Now it's westerly winds and the Santiago Fire in OC crested the Santa Anas last night and is on the march in this direction. Our turn for the smoke and ash. Someone said it's made it to I-15 already, but that's unconfirmed. A fire made it from there to here in 2004, about 10 miles, and kept going, so I am going to stick around here. This is a big dirt patch but we do have a lot of hay here. 5 of the Ramona horses went home today. |

Small world indeed and getting smaller everyday it seems. :) Probably wasn't the best time to be visiting SoCal. I hope Disneyland was still good times for the kids. I'm glad to hear things are settling down there. My sister tends to be a worrier so it's hard to get straight info from her sometimes. :) |

We had media credentials and had to pass through numerous checkpoints with the local Police Department and the National Guard armed with M-16's and blocking the roads with their Hummers, so no, public was not allowed in under any circumstances.

For once, my favorite shot is also being well received and with over 100 votes in now, has never even come close to dipping under a new personal best. One I am so happy that will be in my number one spot on my profile page.
Still digging through some and will be adding more to the collection. |

Saw this picture on the national news taken by a LA Times photographer showing 12 firefighters deploying their emergency shelters when they were trapped at the top of a hill. I have to say this is the best picture I've seen in a while for PJ. The picture they show is actually a tight crop and once you know what's going on in the corner, the full shot (which I'm still looking for) gives more impact.

Edit: Oops you said press... My hats off the the firefighters and all involved in the Emergency Resposne (as well).
Yuppers... those firefighter's are some badazz peeps...
Outback steakhouse/Jack FM is throwing a huge appreciation block party for them...10,000 lbs of meat being grilled up.
The better half received this from Jack FM... Anyone in Sandag wanting to show support this looks like quite the event.

There is no rain inland in Ramona, but sure wish it would rain. There are some clouds.
Our water was turned on about fifteen minutes ago, but can only be used for toilets...it may be contaminated. We're not supposed to do any outdoor watering, or use the water for any other purpose period until they get all of the pumps back on line.
One of my photos made the local news! I submitted it yesterday, and it was on KUSI this morning. It was pretty neat to see it on TV. It was this one, which I took in the San Diego Country Estates, Ramona, not long after the fire started. This is just up the road from my house.

another amazing image of fire damage.
This was posted on a fire-update page for the mountain
area near Running Springs. There were several images
that showed damaged homes and listed homes burned.
The situation is sad but this shot is quite amazing
and kinda creepy, considering the season.

Well how cool is this chain of events?
I finally got around to sending Kelly Jones of KFMB Channel 8TV
an 8x10 edit of this shot I took of her while she was on the air in
Ramona during the beginning of the fire storm & evacuation:
along with a link to a slide show of a bunch of pics taken during the firestorm, and after she and a
number of others there at the TV station saw the pictures, want to interview me tomorrow for a TV segment,
along with showing high-resolution edits, to air during the 12 and 5pm segments.
