So I'm going to try to start a grass-roots motion to make this an official situation.....
The DPC Bi-Polar Conundrum
What it is: That situation you find yourself in when you start out with scores off the charts for your Personal best.....and then it PLUMMETS!!!
So......you're completely disgusted with yourself for getting your hopes up so much, plus being MAJORLY pissed off at the wretched trolls who are killing your beloved image's score, yet at the same time, how can you possibly be anything but happy at what's still an awesome score?
That's what it is and how it works, and it induces this:
Tell us YOUR experience with the DPC Bi-Polar Conundrum, and where you finally ended up.
BTW: The cause of mine?
My Ground Up entry which started out at 7.5455 with 11 votes and now stands at 6.7667 with 60 votes. It's not even a PB any more!
ETA: In order for this to be official, you have to already be resigned to having had your hopes dashed, but gaining acceptance of the decent score! LOL!!!

Yep Im in that pot..
After 10 votes, A solid low 8 score
After 50 Votes, A Happy high 7.8
After 146 Votes, My fifth best at 6.4658
I was jumping, updating, worrying etc
I mean 6.4 is a respectable score for a shoein but 7-8 whew that had my heart going :)

OUCH!!!! It dropped over 1.5 points during the challenge?????
That doesn't even put mine on my profile page if that happens!
Hey, FWIW, I really like that shot.

Not whinging Jeb - just reaching out for understanding, a little empathy to get you through the LONG week ahead!
Honey - if I saw a 7.5 that turned into a 6.7 you'd see bite marks up and down my arm!
Not to mention that I'd never be able to take a photograph again, because I'd have ruined my shutter finger by pressing the update button so many times!
I HEAR YOU!
Now take another hug.....[thumb]604552[/thumb] |

Yeah it can be a killer. I've had two shots recently that were 7+ after 125 votes and then bled it off from there till the end. |

My suggestion is to just turn off the update button. I got my first ribbon after I'd turned mine off. So no roller coaster ride. You can still tell how your entry is doing by the comments you get. You still see them even with the button turned off. I turned the button off after
encountering the update troll asshole. This voter would vote a bunch of entries a 1 right after a challenge turned over to voting. So if you'd developed the habit of checking your entry for the first few votes after rollover it would look horrible. Then after a day or two the person would change the votes. I don't know if this still happens after the tightened vote monitoring as I never use the update button any more. It's really silly if you think about it.

Not to over-react but actual Bi-Polar can be a "real" killer and I'm glad (truly) that you all can joke about it as an analogy to a score vying for a virtual ribbon (especially "bleeding off until the end").
For some, it's not a pleasant thought.

And now I've gone and offended people who have had their head cut off with axes. |

It's impossible *NOT* to offend someone in a public forum.

Didn't say I was offended but saddened at the light hearted and in bad taste connection of Bi-Polar and death.
It hits very close to home for some of us and I meant what I said about "truly being glad" you can joke about it without having bad memories and feelings hit you in the gut.

If you must pay attention to scores, I'd consider the possibility that 99% of all people suck. Their opinions are worthless. The remaining 1%, however, will, I promise, make it all worthwhile. |

Yeah...My ground up entry was up to 6.3 and rising. Then I don't know if people got grumpy or what but it went all the way down to 5.7. |

Actually, I suffer with wild mood swings, and have enough knowledge and history with mental illness to realize that I probably should be medicated.
I also have an incredible upbeat attitude and consequently do not suffer the typically debilitating depression that is characteristic of so many that are bi-polar. That doesn't mean that I don't have it at all, it's just more manageable.
I'm also afraid to venture too far into getting diagnosis.....I'm still free to walk the streets this way.
I do not mean any offense by my use of the term, but I will say that if you're bound and determined to be offended, I can't stop you.
Best of luck to you. |
