As often happens, and more so recently, I come across excellence in photos, which, by my standards at least, have not received the attention they deserve. Sometimes their placement posted in the official challenge results coincides with my (personal) evaluation, sometimes there is distance. Occasionally, a gem has been subjected to severe 'oversight' and/or prejudices, whatever the voters' motivations may be.
To remedy this and to pay respect to those who have made my world a little richer by sharing their works, I want to post an alternate award after and for every challenge (or at least as many as I can handle).
Here are the winners:
Zeus' Top Pic(k)s: Repetition
1. Place
2. Place
3. Place
My comments on the respective images are posted, where they usually are, beneath the image.

There was a photo of three white crosses with a shallow depth of field and a green background in this challenge that I really liked.. I can't seem to find it...

I think you may be thinking of this one: //www.dpchallenge.com/image.php?IMAGE_ID=34837 in the Monuments challenge? |

Thanks David. I found a few that appealed to me in this challenge. The difficulty seems to be, that I'm tempted to predict the winners, in order to create a true alternative. So far so good...

I felt this is an image worth a little attention: //www.dpchallenge.com/image.php?IMAGE_ID=35507. I would have had it in the top 5. It placed 34. |

I think each person gets to voice their opinion about their personal favorites when they place their votes. Otherwise, if everyone chose to post their top picks of the challenge think of how many personal opinions would be expressed. Not to mention, this takes away a little something from the ribbon winners. Kind of made me feel bad since it is my first ribbon and I am very excited about it. |

Congrats on the ribbon, and you should be very excited about it. Please do not think that zeus is trying to take anything away from your shot, or the other winners in the challenges. From what I have read, and what I have seen, he is not posting three pictures that he thinks should have won, but rather three pics that he thought were very good (for whatever reason), but didn't rank high.
It really doesn't take away from you because no matter what, you are still on the front page, and you still have the ribbon. For someone who may have really worked on a shot, only to have it misunderstood by the masses, but then have it mentioned in a thread can be reaffirming and encouraging (not that I would know -- hahaha).
Again, please don't feel like any of the comments here are downing your shot. It was very good, and obvisously many people liked it. Threads like this are just the part of the community where people can give a bit more voice than just a number, and learn in the process by seeing how other people viewed a picture.

I wonder, if anyone else feels the same as progersct. If enough do, I would close the thread. |

I also agree with karmat, many people post what shots they think 'should' of done well, I also think zeuszen does amazing critiques of shots, worth reading as an art in themselves. They are well thought out, articulate and often very insightful, ( zz should be member of critique club IMHO).
I was one however who rated prog. shot in my top picks, it was a great shot also, and you should not feel discouraged, there is never an over abundance of truly great art. |

Sorry, I misunderstood. I thought zeuszen was posting what he thought should have been the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. My mistake. |

Thanks, ellamay, xhoss and karmat for your saying this. It helps me continue to comment to know some see a use.

Just to clarify, progersct, here's the credo for this topic, again:
As often happens, and more so recently, I come across excellence in photos, which, by my standards at least, have not received the attention they deserve. I agree with Karmat totally. I was also wondering if you(Zeus) comment on all entries? Now that would be super and I'm sure all would appreciate your insights. |

Oh, don't feel bad Pam, it's not just you he's dissing, but all us ignorant and bigotted voters who aren't nearly as enlightened as he is. Its not enough for him to say "these were my favorites from this challenge" and simply give a little kudos to those photos. (Though, as you rightly pointed out, if we all decided that our opinion was the most righteous in the land, there would be a couple hundred threads flooding the board after every challenge.)
No, it's very important for him to point out that these particular photos were the victims of "oversight" ('cause we dumb masses were too stupid to see the superiority of these photos) and/or "prejudice" (because we're not only ignorant, but we're also bigotted, racist, homophobic, kitten killing nazis). So it's his imperitive duty to fix this injustice, to right this wrong, to make sure that the unwashed masses of DPC know how badly they screwed up. In fact, lets just forget voting. All we really need is ZeusZen's blessing to pick the top three photos every week. No need to wait a whole week for a couple hundred of us slobs to take the time to analyze and vote on all those photos - winners can be annointed as soon as he receives his inspiration.
So don't feel alone or singled out, because it's not just the legitimate winners who are being snubbed here. It's the entire community. But that's OK, 'cause he's such a cool, enlightened guy.
...now let me go and see if I can pull this bug out of my butt... |

I do not, camelot. I comment on those which incite, intrigue or commote me in some way. I do, however, try to examine, how and why I have been moved by an image, which aspects and ingredients have contributed to its energy and which have not. Often, I remain curious and use question marks in place of periods at the end of sentences. In other words, I try very hard to achieve a quality equalling that of the image.
Needless to say, I invest a great deal of time and effort on a limited number of entries. If I commented on each and all of them at this length, I'd be sleep-deprived and ornery. ;-)

I'd be glad to comment on an image of yours, camelot, if and when you like. Your 'Mountain Man' //www.dpchallenge.com/image.php?IMAGE_ID=33860 is my favourite.
