Interesting article here about how always-with-us camera phones are changing the definition of what is worthy of a picture.
A lot of what is being called "picture worthy" in this article seems more documentary, but then, there's nothing wrong with documentary photos. |

I thought camera phones were a silly just-for-fun idea until I heard of a boy taking a picture of the license plate of a man who'd tried to lure him into his car. I can't imagine that ten years ago we would have ever thought a phone and a camera went together, but the idea is sort of growing on me. I halfway wish the cell phone companies would put some of the serious uses of these cameras (car accidents, crimes, insurance damage) into their advertising, instead of just showing us the "look at the guy in the pickle suit" jokes to sell the idea.

I think we don't do that because it isn't the target demographic. We want to sell the phones we build to affluent 20 somethings, in the hope that they'll want to buy the next smaller/ more stylish version in 18 months too.
Also, I think a lot of people have yet to get to grips with what you can really do with a video enabled phone. Still images are just the really basic level - video is a reality, now. I have two video phones on my desk. It will just take the networks a bit of time to catch up.
