Still Zoomdak, CharlieBaker, and DrAchoo can take any photo of Canon Beach and just say they were doing a tribute to one of the other guys. :P I kid, I kid.

Yeah, good call to change it. I personally don´t care cause I will "copy" a shot but it might be more diverse and fun if that part of the challenge description was changed that you HAVE to emulate it as closely as possible so that people might do parodies and stuff like that.
Maybe it should read something like the last Deja Vu did?
Pay tribute to a previous ribbon-winning image, either by imitation or parody.

Yeah, I think that would be better, or at least add some more interesting versions of shots, I wonder why it changed. |

For this challenge lets just consider them all one person. :P

Challenge archive gives you the top 3 shots of each challenge. I have been going thru those.

I think I would find this a bit more interesting if it were to take a ribbon winning image and pay tribute to it with your own spin or personality stamp on it. Instead of trying to immitate someone else's creativity as closely as possible. |

And we have the beginning of a "what is and what is not Deja Vu" thread...
DNMC :-P

Makes one wonder if doing a bad job of emulating could get you far enough off the mark as to be DQ'd based on the new addendum in the rules...

Yeah kind of agree with this, it would just make sense like that 2 second thingy a while back like Jason says.
|
I got here after the 2 second exposure business I think. Will someone explain it to me (or post me the thread)? thanks. |

There was a challenge where your photo was to be exactly 2 seconds. Two of the ribbons weren't that exact time, but since you can't get DQ'ed for not following the challenge description the ribbons stood. So in subsequent challenges like the "30 secs or more" challenge it has been added as a rule to follow the technical part of the challenge, making it DQable to not follow the description. |

mmm... I am in but I am not satisfied of the photograph...I choose one of the most simple (apparently simple) but there is an abyss between the two shots :( |

Do we need to add a thumbnail of the original ribbon winner in our photo description? |

Isn't it amazing how hard it is to duplicate a photo? I've tried before for various reasons, often on my own shots, and never come away very satisfied.
Although duplicating a shot exactly may lead to a more boring challenge to vote on, it is an excellent exercise in fundamentals and problem solving.

That would really be quite funny - especially trying to emulate the poor quality. I suspect it would be a lot harder than it first appeared though.

At the risk of asking a silly question, how are you going to know whether people have refrained from using their own ribbon-winning entry, seeing as at the voting stage you won't know who shot what? Or is someone planning to trawl through all the shots after voting is done to make sure? Just speaking hypothetically :-)
Also, I plan to pm whoever I end up copying (probably after voting) to thank them for their inspiration, as it's only fair and polite. I hope others do the same :-) |

I believe the top 6 (not sure) automatically require validation. So if you plan on coming in 24th, go ahead and redo your own shot ... But I'm sure after voting, someone will catch you ... especially since you posted this ;P
