Just food for thought y'all. :)

WHAT???? You mean there were cameras before Adobe...now I am shocked. And too find out that they also used filters..wow...I never knew...and here I am getting hammered for using filters...well according to the voters.
What do I do...what do I do...!!

Ya...actually I bought a second 5D last week. So that makes 2x5d's, 1DS Mark II, D70s and a Rebel. Is that enough for now? LOL!!

It looks like anything with a filter may get voted down. Hope voters realize that there is more than one way to make a filter - mine is a combination of painting gel on glass, shooting through that hand-made filter, then applying a very light PS filter. The effect is very different that a stand-alone PS filter on a sharp image. I'm not complaining - I've got a good score right now - but I just got hit by a 1. (Of course, maybe the 1 is simply because someone thinks my photo is rubbish.) |

To clarify, I did use a filter, but that filter was light and on top of work done with camera. Wish I'd skipped out on the PS filter altogether, though, because it didn't change the photo very much, and my score is dropping like a sack of poo - which may be due to perception of the filter. |

Why every one is thinking that using a filter in photoshop is bad thing. If editing rules allow you to do it, you are free to do so.
I did and I liked the outcome. (which is more important). |

Just curious... in what way have the rules changed that would restrict filter use since last time? |

I also used no filter. Mine is running about the same as yours, except with no comments.

marjo
i had to look up how to spell it!
:P
i'm not angry with voters, really, it's just an awkward challenge because art (painting in particular) is so much about individual taste. . .moreso than photography, i think. and it's frustrating to cram both sets of techniques together and expect genius.
don't get me wrong. . .there are some FABULOUS entries.

You're on SC, you tell me. ;)
I assume the differences in this line from the rules would make all the difference:
From 2004:
Cloning, dodging, and/or burning to remove imperfections and minor distracting elements is permitted, however using tools to duplicate, create, or move major elements of your photograph is not.
Today's rule:
You may apply filters, effects, dodge & burn, and other tools to all or part of your entry, but NO new shapes or features may be created in the process.
Notice in 2004 it said major but today it just says no new shapes (no mention of major....it could be a small shape in the corner of the photo and under this rule it would have to be DQ'ed).

I am getting the impressionthat a good majority of us are getting a bit cranky over this impressionismchallenge. Myself included. I just keep reminding myself everyone has their own opinions. I was obviously wrong on my impression of what is impressionism. I still like my photo. I am now going to go off and watch it drop some more. Hopefully not into the 3s. That would really hurt. |

Don't worry folks! I haven't voted yet and I am feeling rather generous today...
I took a look at some thumbs and there are many that are solid... |
