Sounds good to me ... is there a good place to park around there ?

There is metered parking on both sides of street on all the streets that go around the capitol, but I'm not sure, you might not have to feed them on saturdays? There should be a lot of available slots on a saturday. There is also a ramp directly across the street on the south side of the capitol, and another one a block or so up to the north on Capitol Ave. Most of the streets down there are one way, and there is some construction in spots, it may seem confusing, but don't be intimidated, it is really not that bad. There should not be very much traffic at all at that time :-)
Meeting in front of the Capitol is probably a good idea. That would be the main entrance, centered on the east side of the building, looking down Michigan Ave. There is a big statue out there.

oh...one thing, last I recall, unless they've changed it, again...the inside of the capitol is only open mon-fri. So it will be exterior shots only. But the outside is still pretty cool too.

I was afraid with both the Bluesfest and Cruising the Gut that parking might be a problem downtown

how close together are the capitol building and the blues fest? that would be great if they were within walking distance!

I'll try and be there, but I always say that. Have a canoe trip and rugby match penned in on the calendar for that day, but will probably have to work anyway.

They look to be about a mile and a half apart

after I posted regarding possibly walking, I thought that maybe we'd have time to shoot at more locations, so walking distance wouldn't really matter ... I'd prefer to have my truck close by, so when I wanted to head home, it wouldn't be an issue!

I agree, I figured we'd be driving between places anyway.

The Blues Fest I believe is in Old Town, which is on the north end of Lansing, it would actually be quite a walk (at least to me :-) That shouldn't affect parking around the capitol. I'll check with toocool, he should know for sure. I don't really know anything about the Cruising the Gut, I'll see what I can find out.

Ok, so that was easy, I just checked the links Di posted earlier :-P
The Blues Fest IS up in Old Town. Cruise the Gut is downtown, but it says doesn't start until the afternoon (4pm), so parking earlier for us should be fine. Washington Ave where the cars line up is just like a block down the street from the Capitol. They said they will not have the 'cruising' part due to construction in the area.

now we need to figure out where parking is for Bluesfest

Crusing the gut might also be a fun thing to shoot ... sounds a lot like the woodward dream cruise, just not nearly as chaotic!

Bluesfest parking may be a little trickier :-)
There is a lot by the fish ladder, but it is not very big. We usually just find a spot on the streets in the residential areas around that area.

I drive a blue van and driveby shootings is part of my style, but only with a camera, Nikon or Canon. Sometimes it's from a diveway or parking lot. Sometimes I yell "Smile", sometimes I'm quiet az a paparazzi. I've gotten some nice "Street Photography". Once a passenger of mine shot a few photos of a girl on a bike from my window, going at high speeds on a highway. :-)

What is "Cruise the Gut", does it have something to do with food?

I was in Mackinac Island last September, that was nice. You've got a bridge almost like the Golden Gate in California.

Corrected spelling og "Mackinac"

Sounds like great fun! Am 88% sure I will be there, but life hasn't been on my side so much lately. Please Di...add me to the list of "trying to be there"s. And when the details (where to meet, times, etc) are in stone...please let me know. I try and read the forums all of the time but sometimes I just get totally carried away with looking at the pictures... if you know what I mean.

This sounds grand!!

Mike...in Muskegon

For some good ideas!!!! Lansing Website

Do I have to be one of the 'IN' crowd to meet up?
