Why does it seem like most of the people on this site are so deterred and spaztastic about negative comments. Where have you lived your entire life that nobody has ever put you down or insulted you that as soon as it happens on a website you want to jump ship, tuck tail, and run?
Its kind of pathetic.
If you cant handle people not liking your work, then why post it? If everyone loved everything you did, how could that be fun.

Forum Rules Hmmm. Might want to check rules 11, 12, and 14.
I suppose in making this post I should check rule #13 myself. :) |

Im not so much calling them out. In a way, this is constructive criticism.
The only reason I mentioned Sherpet, was because she has managed to interject that she has her scores turnedo ff and how stressed and upset she is about them in half the threads in the past week. She is a good photographer, I dont get why she is spazzing over two pictures.
Plus, this is a rant and both are responses to threads where these individuals brought the issues to the forefront themselves. |

It is the same reason why people get very upset at their photographs being copied onto other sites: people can become very precious about their images. It is nice to see people proud of their images and gaining a sense of worth, but sometimes this is overstretched in the context of the relative importance of images produced for DPC and the âbigger pictureâ.

It's our new feel good society. We can't give bad grades to kids in school because they will feel bad, we can't keep score in little league baseball because the losers might be unhappy. Everyone is a winner, everyone is happy, just like the real world. |

I HATE THIS. HATE IT.
This ticks me off everytime I see it. I also hate the parents that wont discipline their children. A kid needs to get yelled at every once in a while. A kid needs to lose and win games. I also firmly believe that everyone needs to get in a fist fight at some point in their life, and even more, everyone needs to lose a fist fight at some point in their life.
I think its the media has everyone in such a state of fear about school shootings and stuff like that, that everyone coddles thier children now thinking that will be the way to keep them from becoming the next shooter. |

Some of the people you mention had what I consider a normal reaction to taking a pretty good beating in the forums. Though their reaction would have had more weight in my mind had they just acted on it instead of making it a threat.
Some of the people you mention can't go for a few days without tossing up a poor-me post. The site caters to it, hence the Personal Problems forum section, so the easily-offended crowd is obviously a significant part of the site and you should count on such behavior in most circumstances. |

I guess a thread whining about whining was inevitable.

Seems it's not about people either loving or hating what you do, but about the delivery. And sometimes one can go batshit if the comments have very little, or more likely nothing, to do with actual photography, but rather the poster's personality, model, etc. |

The original thread was a lot more direct, but whiny PMs and rule quotations caused me to delete it. |

This thread has turned into âdo you know what I hateâ thread ?
Getting back to the origin of this thread and my view on it:
Firstly we are all here for different reasons and have different needs and goals we wish to achieve here, some higher then others and so too do we have different reactions when things arenât going to plan.
To some people this place is their only social interaction, sad as that may sound but to some people this is their main interaction with other humans, so emotions can run high and being a non-verbal medium thing can quite easily be misunderstood.
I find it quite ironic that the main compliant here is regarding how people react to challenge entries but the complainant has yet to enter a challenge to understand that emotional rollercoaster.
Anyway back to "do you know what I hate".....I hate when a new inexperienced young person starts working at my workplace and spends the first few days telling us all how we should be doing things.
Yep that really irks me.

Honestly, the reason I dont enter challenges is cause I dont care about ribbons or update buttons or what you think about my stuff. Based on what scores well here, I dont think the kind of stuff im into would score well either for that matter. The day they start awarding a cash for ribbons program, hell count me in, but until then, if a challenge looks interesting and I have the free time to do it, then Ill think about it, but until then, Ill just look and learn from what others say and do and pick and choose what I want.
The fact that im a child of the internet age where messageboards and chatrooms have been part of my daily interactions (but thank god their is real life socializing too...some would say im a social butterfly even) has helped me develop the mindset that none of you matter really. Thats great if you are nice, but until I meet you face to face, you might as well be another glitch in the matrix haha.
And if you find posting pictures online an emotional rollercoaster, you should try the death-defying feeling you get from a good crossword puzzle, or the tantalizing danger implied with crocheting. Bottom line...its the internet, if you treat it like real life, you probably should quit.

I think you may have missed my point.
For such an internet savvy person like yourself I thought that you would have understood that not everyone is like you, we are individuals with individual needs and emotions.
Different cultures, different countries, different needs and expectations, which others like yourself need to accept we don't need to be told how to react according to your philosophy we react in our own way that is what makes the world the way it is and the internet is helping us all to understand this.
For someone who believes there is no room for emotion on the internet you certainly appear to be very emotional.
A wise man once said to me âIf you canât say something nice about someone, donât say anything at allâ
BTW.... you do have the ignore option

Then why bother ranting about those that mean nothing to you? |

Okay......so what *IS* your point?
It sure sounds like you're just taking a crop to the backside of anyone who has the audacity to get steamed at another who makes an insensitive comment.
I've been interacting socially a good bit longer than you've been alive and damn near on the 'net that long.
I have been a mailing list admin and amongst many from all over through this medium, and STILL people can push my buttons on some things.
DUH!!! Mean people suck, nobody likes it, and welcome to life!
But pointing out the people who get jacked by someone mean sort of misses the point, to me.
Where was it that you meant to go with that line of thought and why?

I was going to say that... I'm certain I've seen more days online than he has, more rants, more crying and wailing, more hand-wringing, and more bitching about all of it (all posted and read on usenet and irc no less). There's plenty of people who've seen it all, long before the web came into existence. No matter how shiny and new you think you are, there's really nothing new under the sun. |

Continue your abrasive ways and it's no wonder some skin is thinning. Do you have to go out of your way to offend people or does it just come naturally? |
