I am working on a photo for the current challenge and I'm having a problem... I took the photograph with the camera in a landscape view. I am trying to crop out a portrait (vertical 480x640) segment of the image. When I do this crop and create my new image with it, I am seeing jagged egdes on the diagonals in the image that I don't see when I crop horizontally. Any ideas on this? I have tried it with a few different software applications and get the same results....

Try roatating the canvas 90 degrees and then cropping, it might just be a problem with the resampling algorithms.

Myk,
I tried that and got the same result with the jagged edges... I believe my problem was solved by a reboot. I haven't rebooted in two weeks so I went ahead and did that today and I think it cleared up my problem.
I decided to ditch this image anyway. I made some shots today that will serve me better in this challenge, I *hope*.

This might be because you were not looking at the result at 100% zoom ? Anything larger or smaller, especially not on multiples like 50%, 25% etc, will quite often show jaggies, due to the quick resampling algorihtms used.

I thought that may be the case too but the jagged edges were still apparent after I resampled to 480x640 and viewed at 100%... Anyway... I tossed this particular photo. I'm using another one that I think may perform a little better next week...
