Well, I'm thinking I might finally enter another challenge (my second one in 3 years!!) but I'm really nervous that if a council member asks to see when I shot it, that my camera will not have that information. I know it sounds crazy, but for it to save the time, date, the display function must be active when taking the shot. With basic editing I can't clone so then how can I remove the date/time???
I want to beware before entering that I indeed can prove my image if asked. :)
Thanks in advance. |

The date and time are in the EXIF information embedded in the picture file. When you know the shot you want to enter, copy it and SAVE the original, unedited file. Do all your edits and and submit the copy of the original.
This Tutorial may help.
This about EXIF may also help.

What CEJ Said...
(If a Windows User)
Right Click on any original photo (jpg) and choose properties.
Click the Summary tab
Click the Advanced >> button
You will see all the EXIF info including a field labeled Date Picture Taken.
If you have a shot with the date imprinted on it, the only way in a basic challenge is going to be to crop the date off.

It just like any other file date. If you saved a Word or Excel file for example, you don't have to have the date actually in the document, but it can be seen by someone who knows how to look.
With the camera files, as long as the date/time on your camera is set properly (before you take the shot!), and you save the file w/ out using conversion software, you'll be fine.
The trick is too check your camera settings. If you let the batteries go dead (or remove them for an extended period) many cameras will reset to Jan. 1, 2000! Mine also has a feature for "local time" when I travel, but I've never used it. |

So, when I right click and view properties when saved in my pictures file, it says taken : (enter date). If ever asked, I submit my original, and somehow they can view that information too?? Because I don't have the software listed in the EXIF tutorial and don't really want it if not needed (I already get the white screen of death). :(
Thanks for the help guys |

If you're concerned, send a note to the Site Council with one of your originals and ask them to verify you've done so correctly. The Site Council members are really quite nice and want to help you.
Go to the help menu and choose "contact us" and click the box for "DPChallenge - General Inquiry."
Just say that you're attaching an original, and could they please verify it has what info they need.
I did just that with my new camera because I'm using a different method to get the files from the camera to the computer from what I did with my old camera.
Give them a few days to respond, since this isn't related to a specific challenge, and they have a large workload dealing with challenge issues.
