I have no problem with seeing a face in the challenge as long as the subject of the emotion is faceless...

Description: Capture extreme emotion. However, the face of the emotive subject should NOT be the main focus of your photo.
Just wanted to bring this up... There can be a face, as long as it is not the main focus of the picture. Happy voting! :) |

well here is a question, i don't think i 've seen it in this challenge, but in general , how can you show a face without anyone looking at it(being the mian focus),
unless the face is way in the background of a some landscape or something.
i mean i really tried to accomplish that, (show face without focus on it), in vain, i opted to go faceless...

What if the subject with the extreme emotion is not even on screen at all and the image is providing the context for the subject with the emotion?

well that could be a way to avoid the problem as a whole, but another problem comes in, convey the message to the 5 sec voter, because that my friend is going to be a tough one |

Agreed. That is why it is a risky play. I saw a couple of images that did a really nice job of doing that very thing, but I would guess I spend more time per vote than many...those images are also the ones that will get a bunch of DNMC comments, unfortunately...

exaclty, i don't vote quite often because i don't have time to give every picture it's fair amount of time. if i do have time i try to know what the person was thinking or the message they are trying to convey before i give a vote |

I've actually seen about three or four shots that did just this. Where the face wasn't the main focus or what showed the emotion, it was the body language or an object next to the face that showed the emotion. Just because there is a face in there, does not mean it is the focus....especially if that face is blurred out or dark or covered or monochrome (while the main subject is in color). So there are plenty of ways to do it. |

no that wouldn't make it faceless. The face is still there. Monochrome is just black and white (or a single color). doesn't mean the face isn't there anymore, just means it isn't he main focus. |

I spent a lot of time setting my shot up. It is possibly the strongest emotion anyone can feel too! I got one comment "ugly".!!!! Why bother writing that. I feel like crap now, theres an emotion for you. I`m seriously getting fed up of DPC.
Steve |
Oh, Steve, I'm right there with ya, Buddy!!!
In the past 4 challenges, I haven't broken the 5 mark! And, the comments are just totally ridiculous! I've done the same as you, spent a heck of a lot of time, thought and set up, only to have it marked down for what the comments tell me is insignificant details to the overall shot. Silly, stupid and immature comments and nit-picking.
As a matter of fact, from the comments that I've received in this challenge, I'd say that they are coming from other entrants in this particular challenge who are trying to downgrade others' photos to raise their own scores! :( Just a gut feeling on this based upon the types of silly nit-picks that really have NO merit whatsoever.

NOT defending it, but it's kind of easy to nitpick when there is an inherent contradiction between the title of the challenge and the description. |

I'm ignoring my score for this challenge (I'm sitting right around where I usually score) but I'm surprised by the # of comments. Sitting at 8 and not even a day into voting. Surprising. |

I haven't voted yet, but I looked 'em over to see if I would call any of them "ugly" - and the one most likely to elicit that comment from me woudl also get a high score from me because it's emotion is about as extremem as any of them.
But then, that may not be yours. LOL |

Silly question here, but in Basic Editing, is it allowed to monochrome all but a single feature (which i saturated)? There are a few pics that seem to do this (as well as one that seems to be a double exposure, which I thought was illegal in Advanced, too.)
I thought that was for Advanced Editing. But I'm still trying to figure out the rules. |
