There's quite a bit of melodrama in this thread.
IMO admin announcements like this should just be posted and locked. I can't see what there is to debate or discuss. |
We debated this issue internally on whether to post an announcement and whether to advise who was banned and whether to allow discussion. We opted for as much openness as possible to allow for transparency of our actions (if not our investigative methods, which we keep to ourselves for obvious reasons), to allow people to discuss something in an appropriate thread and not litter the forums, and finally to effect general deterrence. |

And as far as Amy goes... well, I'm torn on that, she is old enough that she should have known better, but hey, I made some more serious stupid mistakes when I was her age. | photoman with you all the way meet you in the bar |

everyone you are getting negative too quick. Amy never actually stated on the website that the photos were hers, she just did not give credit, so it wasn't theft...

All kidding aside, what has happened is sad, and I do appreciate the often thankless task the Site Council does here.
I just like to toss in a bit of asinine with reality once in a while.

I just looked at the "Sea" challenge. Indeed the 20th place image has been removed, but there is now no 20th place. There's a 19th and a 21st, but no 20th. Shouldn't all images from 21st on down move up one? That's how it's usually done.
Just sayin'
*ETA* The other two challenges as well.

...So if I take your car but don't claim it as mine, and don't tell people it is really yours ... then it's NOT theft?
Interesting concept.

The perm ban was for ban evasion and impersonating a user. *Not* for image theft. |

she took photos from this site, altered them and posted them on her site. without permission from the original photographer. seems pretty negative to me.

Ray and I don't agree allot but we do here:) Who gave her the right to alter the photos in the first place. besides I could forgive that as I like to forgive most things but then to not even take her punishment (which when she returned nobody would have known what she did) she decided to act like she was her sister and continue to enter challenges.

It's implied ownership. A lie by omission. And theft.

It's not impossible that they would. But, eventually, they will get caught, I feel. |
