I'm particularly happy with this shot. I just love the smooth water and the highlights on the duck.

I'd love to read suggestions on how to improve it.

Thanks.

"Proud of this one" ... As you should be :) It's a splendid capture. Very nicely composed and the trail of the water surrounded by the silky smooth calm water is excellent. Suggestions? It looks really good already so you're pressing me to look hard. I know this is cliche with the add contrast comment, but I would add more contrast and see how the blue colors will shine but still being careful not to make the shadows too dark or blow the highlights so... create a copy layer of the image, add the contrast boost, then with the eraser tool erase away the dark shadows and blown highlights. You're done!

Thanks for all the great constructive comments and pointers.

I'm learning from some of the very best photographers there is.

Wonderful. Maybe some cloning to clear up the specs in the water. It does not need much. Possibly a little different crop to put the duck more on the thirds (both to the left and down just a bit), but maybe not because the negative space is crucial. Not sure if there is room availabe on the right.

My eye seems to go to the specs in the water before it goes to the head. Maybe some dodge and burn to highlight the face a bit to focus the eye. Make the face pop a bit.

As far as technicals go, this is pretty near flawless. There are a few specks in the water that could be cloned out to advantage. The composition is pretty static though, considering how dynamic the duck's wake actually is. Here's a workover using the skew tool in Photoshop to create a more dynamic line in the image. Granted, the duck is now distorted so this isn't that great, but it shows what could be accomplished if the image had been framed up differently.

I think it would look great mirrored horizontally also :)

Awesome image Fromac! Love the clarity and the overall serenity :O)

The only thing I might suggest is to try completely cloning out the shadowed head in the water. Not sure if that would look "proper" or if it would destroy the perspective of the image, but I keep coming back to it & wondering. I'd take a stab at it myself, but need to run.

Again - suberb image.

Here's another one. I think I like the editing of this one more...but the subject less.

Any thoughts?

Don't like the water color anymore, and the composition doesn't work as well imo.

Great capture. I love ducks. I tend to be a sharpening fiend but you might try USM at 500% @ .2 pixels. The detail on the duck really pops without detrimental effects on the silky water. I agree with everyone about cloning out the few spots in the water, the silky smoothness would seem even more so with these specs removed.

I love the first image. I hope you didn't mind I did a little touch up and removed the spots in the water and did a little dodge and burn to bring out some highlights in the subject.

Wonder picture and I love the softness of the water.
