How can a person respond to a comment left during a challenge? I received a PM from a person who's photo I left a comment on but do not find any way to do that myself. I supppose this would not necessarily be a desirable thing since a person could try to talk up someone who gave them a negative comment to a higher score.

If a person comments without their name being revealed (check your preferences settings) then you don't have any way to respond during voting. If, however, a commenter does have their name showing then you can respond by clicking on their name and sending a PM.

This, however, whilst not against the rules...is frowned upon. It is up to you how you handle the responses.

All of the comments I have say "hidden during challenge".

I always try to reply to any comments left on my submissions - why would it be frowned upon? I'm not trying to boost scores or anything else neferious just generally thanking people for their comments.

After all, if someone goes to the trouble of actually expressing an opinion, I think it only correct to thank them for their effort.

Then they are all bagheads (identity turned off in their preferences).

It may be that you have the 'hide commenters names' box ticked in your profile set-up. You can change this by going in to the Preferences page (under My Home, above).

This is not frowned upon at all. :)

Do you reply while voting is still in progress?

That is indeed the case. Thank you.

Yes I do - for me it isn't really about the score (you only need to look at my profile for that!) it's about what people think about my effort. Discussion is good it fosters learning - I hope:)

Some people, if you try to explain your image, may think of that as canvassing to improve votes. I don't, but I don't do it so as not to offend those who do.

I take your point but I would much rather respond to comments whilst they are 'live'. I only ever refer to specific comments made and generally do not try to explain my image. If I have done my job it should be self-explanatory - hopefully.:)

I got a PM from someone while voting was going on saying I'd left him the best comment EVER.

Hey, I am always happy to receive responses to my comments left... to me, it ain't about the score, it is about learning.

So, talk to me, I am happy to respond.
