Remember that free digital workflow CD Canon was offering? I got mine last night (Good News) and the darned thing was chipped (Bad News). Gonna have to try and finagle another from them. Ah well. Back to the grindstone.

hey, have you tried to rip the CD using CloneCD? or winISO?
If someone is ready to rip it to an .ISO file I would be clad to give them access to my FTP server and upload for the rest of DPCers in the world :D

No nead for CloneCD or winISO. There is no copy protection whatsoever. I copied everything to my hard drive and it runs fine from there. I'd be happy to ZIP everything up & FTP it if Völundur wants to provide the server bandwidth!

It's an interesting CD. I enjoyed the video clips because I like to here what the pros have to say. It is pretty clunky trying to navigate eveything. Maybe I missed some things but there was next to nothing in regards to different sharpening techniques or some other post processing techniques. But it was free so you can't beat that.

So far it looks like it would be good info for anyone trying to do digital imaging, not just the people using Canon EOS cameras.
The colour management section is pretty well written and the photographer interviews and gallery work is interesting too. Haven't got much further than that yet but it is good so far. |

It's nothing more than a marketing CD to sell you stuff (i.e. encourage you to buy the 1D and 1Ds). Part of it is interesting, but nothing special. Most of it is to encourage film user to switch to digital. |

Maybe they sent you a different CD or something ? Mine has a load of useful info about workflow, sharpening, colour management, proofing, storage and a load of interesting stuff about some professional photographers and their images....
I think from the questions I see here a lot, that many people could learn a lot from what's on it. There didn't seem to be much about the Canon cameras at all. |

Did you see the section that goes through the levels, curves, unsharp masking, resizing dialogs, one by one and explains all the settings ? |

None of the workflow stuff is really "new" though. To me there wasn't really much to be gain watching the video other than they are touting the digital SLR as good as the film cameras to encourage people to switch. But maybe people can learn from the workflow, especially the raw part which I am already familiar with.

That's not exactly 'just a marketing CD' though then is it. Of course if you already know everything there is to know about digital workflow, there isn't much value to it.
I was particularly interested in the info on getting good prints and again hearing the advice to use guide prints for any output you care about. Also the info about lighting technique was helpful, at least for me.

Hey, Gordon... would you be interresed to upload an ISO of the CD onto some server? - I can provide it if you want to...
I think the rest of the world should see the CD ;)
it would be cool, Kirbic is not answering my e-mail...

Don't really feel like uploading 640Mb - my ISP would likely complain.... |
