I vote for another self-portrait challenge. I have never done one, and I am extremely curious as to how it would turn out. Not that I don't look at myself in the mirror everyday....but I guess you see what I mean.

Of course there is nothing to stop you trying it anyway...

Sometimes I get the feeling in the forums that people forget that.
I'm sure you didn't.

Good idea, Ellen! I'd love to do a self-portrait .. well, okay.. maybe not luv (for the sake of the subject),,.. :) LOL
but, I have actually tried and failed miserably.
How the heck to you even get a focus on yourself?

It would be great to see who we are all up against in these challenges.

i think it would be fun

here's an alternate suggestion though

instead of a self port challenge, how about a self portrait gallery on the site?

that way anyone who wanted could put their pic in and it would be free of any competitive considerations including subjective things like attractivness.

just an idea : )

Self-portraiture is a classic artistic expression. I have no doubt that my ugly puss will scare off some voters, but I'd like to give it a try. As Karen alluded to earlier, it is a technical as well as artistic challenge.

You self-portrait fanatics should head over to

I'd be very up for trying a self portrait! I think it would be a fun and challenging photo to take... plus we could get some interesting ones like in the last self-portrait challenge. Self-portraits are classic art, and in fact almost any photography class you take will probably have you do one for an assignment! I say lets do it :-)

i absolutely agree it is also a technical challenge, as well as a whole host of other issues (self-composition comes to mind -- people with articulating LCD's on their cameras have the edge here : ) ) ..

but there's no reason to not give your techie best to a pic that would go in a "Rogue's Gallery of DPC", if you will, either : ) ..

in fact, if it was a function that you could update as frequently as your profile, it would be even cooler than a Challenge, because you wouldn't be limited to just one! :)

Great idea mag. but I want to see a picture bigger then the profile picture. I need my glasses to see the darn thing.

Self-portrait can be a good way to work on portrait-taking ability. You have a bit more control over some elements of the photo (posing of the subject, etc.) so you can work on your lighting and composition, etc.
