Bloody hell! My stomach just hit the floor! strikeslip, may all the ants in the world, crawl up your trouser legs! Lol! For a few seconds there, I was totally devastated.....until I read the rest of the posts! Whew! I think my heart beat is returning to normal now! Need a drink!

PHP BB is pretty easy to install and configure too. Not a lot of coding involved.

And you can get modules for ranking images and such that plug into it.

And on that note, I'm off to vote, to ensure the integrity of this site

ETA: Just kidding

Nothing has happened that has changed my view of DPC. It's still the only web site I've ever found that I'm happy to waste hours on.

Agreed. I haven't been here long, and I don't participate as much as I should, but damn, plenty of talent, class and credibility here to overshadow any of the *minor* disturbances.

I'm new here and I'm amazed at the 'class, credibility, integrity, direction, talent, etc' Could you be a bit more specific (without naming names or singling people out)?

He's talking about this person.

Wow, don't I feel honored this morning to wake up and see this. Thank you. I feel so much netter knowing that just yesterday morning I woke up and posted this....

An apology

But you left that very expressive profile photo up so who would have believed it? Beware of Slippy.

macrothing, you're probably onto something. But the integrity of this site is the integrity of each and every person who makes up this community. As we grow, there is less personal responsibility for the image of the community and that anonymity gives rise to tarnishing of the image as people behave poorly because they don't feel responsible or connected to the community.

Speaking of anonymity ( macrothing)...

Personally, I find it rather ironic that someone who provides absolutely NO personal information is trying to discuss class, credibility and integrity.

Ahhh, the good old days. Thinking about them got me a little nostalgic, so I spent some time reviewing a random selection of threads from back before DPC's character was tarnished. Perhaps we should take a lesson from these examples and straighten up our acts;)

How could someone do such a thing??????

Just a reminder that the OP did intend this as a serious discussion. We have plenty of rabble-rousing threads, and anyone who wants to is always welcome to start one more.

It is a shame. I used to like coming to DPC.

If only I could code.

To the 'good' at DPC, past and present, thank you.

I disagree that it's been losing all this but I do believe that one side effect of the sort of growth that DPC has been experiencing is dilution of all the above. DPC is no longer a small niche site with a unique spin. It's still mainly based around photography but people come here wanting it to be their coffee shop, expecting to conduct all their business here. It seems to me that it's become more of a local mall. There is still an incredible wealth of class, credibility, integrity, direction and talent on this site. There are also plenty of "mallrats" and a general constant din.

DPC is never going to be like it used to. The user base has multiplied exponentially and there are certain aspects of the site that will never be the same. That happens with any system that grows from small to large. I believe that all of the core aspects that ever made DPC anything special are still there, they're just harder to find sometimes. Treasures at the bottom of the bargain bin.

I really don't see that these things have any relation to each other (although I am obviously biased). It's perfectly possible to have class, credibility and integrity without publishing your full name and home address for the world to see. That I know that you are Linda Lee from Virginia doesn't mean an ounce more to me than that I know he is "macrothing" from (I know where he's from but I don't disclose out of courtesy to him). Owning up to your actions means more than stamping a still unknown name on them.

Ha HA HAAA! I almost looked it up. Then I realized what you were doing. That is a sad confession to make.

I understand, and I can see your point of view. I would have to own up to it being more of a "pet peeve" with me - I don't like to see people complain about things like "credibility" while hiding behind a completely anonymous userid.

Me being LindaLee from Virginia, since it is true, goes further toward credibility than anonymous from nowhere. For me, owning up to your actions means willing to be who you really are. The internet makes it so easy to hide, and in my opinion, this is where the problems with crediblity and integrity creep in...

I certainly don't expect anyone to publish any information they don't wish to, but I sure have a lot more respect for someone who's willing to put their name and face to their actions.

Not trying to stir the pot... just my own point of view.

Exactly. Would you consider a news reporter credible if he/she refused bylines?

Right. Leroy Dickson is clearly credible and swimming in integrity now that I know his name and have a face to put with it.

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

Was this thread started two years ago when I joined? No? Yes? Both?
