Exotic looking wasps/hornets - where were these then? Did they let you get close with no hassle?

They are a variety of paper wasps I think, shot in Texas. They seemed more intent on finishing the nest than bothering with the camera lens and flash being stuck in their way.

Great job Gordon.
Not to steal away from your story Gordon, but this makes me wonder, has anyone actually photographed any "Killer" bees in the Texas area?

I don't see the garden fence,photo doesn't meet the challenge!
Frame is not 100% filled,doesn't meet the challenge!
LOL
Maybe the sarcasm will help the voters look more on the quality of the photo!
