Love the classic B/W.

Sorry, but I couldn't help it. It's not that I'm close or anything though. I just drove back from Sacramento today, and it took all of about 14 hours with all of the stops for the kids and everything.

Scott I love those shots very nice. You trying to channel Ansel Adams??? :)

Yeah, a little. How can you avoid it? I mean, Yosemite was "his spot" to photograph. I spent quite a bit of time in the Ansel Adams Gallery looking at all of the photos there, came home with a book of his, and figured I would try a few shots like that with a digital. The B/W is so much more difficult in my opinion to achieve stunning results like he had. I spent hours on each single photo, trying to get it just how I envisioned it to begin with.

Speaking of nutzito, has anyone heard from him since the team was put together?
04/23/2007 11:52:02 AM · #182
I PM'd him last week. He still wants to be part of us, he's just very very busy.

Anybody in bubbles? I'm sitting at 5.8 right now.
04/25/2007 02:48:54 PM · #184
Not in bubbles, but am in kitchenware. I'm sitting about 5.8. Way to go Chris! Can't wait to see what you came up with for bubbles. That's tough!

I'm in rule of thirds and sitting at a whopping 5.2 right now. I don't know what has happened. I think people expect dramatic unreal editing anymore to rate a photo good. Out of my top 5 photos, only one is almost straight from the camera. The other four had many edits done to them. I have nothing against editing, but I don't think it should be a requirement. Of my recent challenges, I have been scoring 5.5 or lower for what I would view as technically good photographs in all areas, just not overprocessed in photoshop. Then there is a gap, and everything above 6 had quite a bit of PP. It's kind of frustrating. I prefer to keep things "normal" looking most of the time, and stray from that on occasion, as opposed to making that the norm. It doesn't make any sense to me.

I totally agree, Scott. Before I joined, I knew I was at a disadvantage based on my (lack of) skill. But then when I really started seeing what people were doing... Wow. What can you do though? It's still early, lots of room to move too.
The things in your portfolio are very nice and pleasing, so try not to get discouraged. (easy for me to say, I know)

I decided to take a look at all your work again. It is extremely easy to get fed up with challenges and accept a perception that your work isn't as good as someone elses.

To put it shortly that's just BS. Everyone in the site has good days and bad days. And it really doesn't matter in the end anyway. What matters is the challenge, not the score, but the challenge to think out of the box, and to improve how you see the world around you through your shutter.

All that being said, I thought you might all want to look at my favorites of your teammates work All but mine and I had Jammur pick those out.

Scott ( traquino98)

Chris ( cryan)

James ( Jammur)

Charlene ( dcnfarrell)

BamBam ( BAMartin)

Alfredo ( Nutzito)

And my own ( Chesire)

We all do good work. How we fair against the voters is a lot like trying to predict the wind in West Texas. It's always gonna blow, but you never know which way or how fast.

I'm very proud to be part of this TEAM.

Edited for spelling cause I am illiterate at times!!!

Wow, thanks for doing this. When you look at our body of work, we are quite good. AQlthough I want to be a part of this team to learn and grow and have fun, we might be a team to be watch.

I am glad to be a part of this. Lets have fun!!

Ches, you're amazing, way to rally your team mates

Bam, just saw the tiger pic, I'm sure quite a few of the resident clowns would love to have that one in their portfolios.

Fredo, your work is outstanding, with you batting clean up, the skies the limit.

Chris really like your eye for detail and color.

Char, I know we talked about the Barbies, but girl, that portrait is straight out of a Leone movie, its the eyes.

and
Scot, smokin' dude, pity, triptych is this week.

Leone Movie? Huh? Yeah, the barbies...

I am SOOOOO glad the week is almost over. Still processing last weekends pictures (all the completed ones in my portfolio, using DPCPrints for printing)... Still have a ton to do, but the girls seem happy with what I've done so far.

Next plans.... Well finish post processing. Then I need to really see about the best lens for what I'm doing. I don't think I've got it. Need a faster one. (50mm Prime maybe???? but which one????)

Still trying to buy a light box for little stuff.

Gonna set up the table/backdrop this weekend, and try to practice on the furlines in the house.

Have an idea for Pi, but I don't know. kinda silly.

So what are the rest of you up to????

I'm coming up blank for this week's challenges. But I haven't given up, yet.
04/26/2007 04:39:14 PM · #195
Wow! Talk about making someone feel good. Thanks for the look through those images guys!

I am going on the DPC GTG in Page AZ this weekend. We are leaving tomorrow and staying until Tuesday. I have never been to this part of the state and I am very excited. Not sure how any of the challenges fits in with it though....

I just entered my best photo of the month in the April Free Study. I really suck at naming my photos....
04/26/2007 09:02:12 PM · #198
as we're still preseason here, i just entered my best shot, let me name it for you.... how's "Also Ran" sound?

That sounds about right. I am not predicting a high finish, and I may withdraw it tomorrow. Its the only photo that I have that I can possibly enter into a free study though. Oh well, we shall see.

Took the night off from post processing. Just gets overwhelming after a while. however I am VERY pleased with our first try at studio shooting. I still don't have the the lights working quite right. Or more likely I just have no friggen clue how to fix the camera settings correctly. I love the solid black background, but I'm gonna have to buy another one soon, or every picture I take will be black.

Can't decide on whether to get off white, green, blue, grey, wine/purple, red or gold. Any suggestions?

I do have a free-study in, we'll see how it goes. Before the Insect challenge I thought it was probably my best ever... Will be interesting to see how it fairs.
