Was this timed to coincide with the movie release?

Probably nothing compared to what some people here likely got, but the moment I saw it at a display size in PhotoShop, I started cackling with glee...

Well, you will probably clean up. Those unintentional shots that just seem to come to folks always seem to do the best. It is written in the stars, It is fated. Rebecca will be the winner.
I have an idea what it might be, but I won't spoil the fun.

Oh, I doubt it. There's always something brighter and shinier than what I put in. I was really excited about my Trees entry, too, also Minimal Editing, and then wasn't so excited anymore once I saw what it was up against. I pretty much expect that to be the case here, too.

Funny you should say that about your trees challenge. When I entered mine and looked at the others, I thought for sure it would not go any higher than 30%. Well it ended up at around 90%. So you never know what the voters are gonna like until "the fat lady sings." (Nobody will be offended, I hope.)

People, this is a minimal editing challenge. Do you think that comments like "great shot, but it's a bit pale" is really going to help me with a minimal editing challenge??? I know it's pale! I couln't fix the colors! Look at the subject matter and composition, and not if my insect had the light hitting him the perfect way... Geez...

Actually in a minimal editing challenge it is up to you to get it right in the camera. So if the light wasn't right you have to expose properly, light it properly and if you can't do that, don't enter! OK, maybe not that extreme, but really, you cannot rely on photoshop to fix your lighting problems.

I think you haven't been here long enough... :)

I'll take your bet and guarantee you a spider (without an insect) will NOT be in the Top 10. The drag of the DNMC vote will be too strong for even a great picture to overcome...

Well, looks like every once in a while, I'm right.

Top non-insect came in 32nd (the pillbug)
Top spider...59th (eating an insect)
Top Spider without an insect...109th

Now, I didn't enter, but I DID vote on all entries- and with absolutly NO offense to the winner- I'm not exactly understanding the third place pick. I'm just wondering if anyone else voted picture B higher than picture A? better yet-why? Did I miss something?

Well, I'm brave enough to be the first to pick on my photo (and probably not the last!)

When I look at it objectively, I'm guessing that the voters noticed a couple of fairly big flaws--the first being that the shot is a little bit overexposed, making the colors a tad bit unnatural. The colors in the ribboning shot very accurately depict what they eye would see, and I think that appeals to many voters, particularly in a Minimal Editing challenge. Perhaps people honestly felt that mine was too processed? Or just had that look to it?

And, secondly, I had to use a pretty shallow DOF cause I had my macro lens on :-) So there's that nasty blurred leaf in the foreground that's pretty distracting. The focus on the ribboning shot is also spot on, and the larger DOF really enhances that I think.

We get to meet the butterfly face on in Sandy's shot. I wouldn't underestimate that. The plane of focus is also on the butterfly's eyes.

I am really disappointed about my insect entry - didn't think it would score THAT low... :(
