So you're trying to address an issue that *IS* important, and *DOES* need discussion by trying to take the focus off it why?
You don't want to participate, fine, but don't denigrate and belittle this topic.....and it's not laughable, either.

Hey, at least you admit that you're off topic!
That's growth!!
Now, let's try this slow.....O N T O P I C!!!
The gay rights issue is real, is happening at this very minute, and will continue to be treated poorly 'til people learn and understand what it's really about.
It isn't just about gay rights, it's about human rights and the right to live life without anyone else telling you what you can, and cannot do.

if you live in a society, then you just got to adhere to that society's rules. the only way in which you can entirely "live life without anyone else telling you what you can, and cannot do" is to live on an island without anyone else. like gramps used to say, "you live under my roof, you follow my rules!". gramps was cool. |

i feel there has been great leaps forward in recent years, not too many years back i would have been burnt at the stake for living with my partner, but we do live together and have no problems. In the uk the labour gov. is doing a lot to improve things, which is why i will vote for them again. The world just needs a little time to get used to the idea. My partner is a teacher and he says the kids coming out of school today have a totaly different attitude.
this is a great thread with lots of emotion being shown. |

This article on kids who are gender variant
is, perhaps, a good way to change the subject
from the previous post. |

Not only is this response completely off-topic, but shows an amazing amount of ignorance on the subject of not only homosexuality and same-sex marriage, but also that of the sensitive issue of abortion.
Now, I know you to be a very conservative person in your views, but this response goes far beyond anything I'd have ever expected. Unbelievable. |

This is why we have so far to go.
What can you say to this kind of mindset?
I am humbled and ashamed that I have to share life with this kind of senseless, cruel thinking....it's just mean.

Thank you. Thank you very much.
Maybe my responce would have been better understood if I had included the word "too", as in "Yep, that's right. Much of the world has gotten used to killing babies too!"

I don't care if gay people marry each other. I'm all for it.

Now a question for anyone who is gay:
What if all states allowed gay marriages...and one day a gay couple got into a fight and one killed the other...then a year later, a gay couple got into a fight while driving down the road and they wrecked their car into a bus full of school children and 32 kids died...then everyone started talking about how gay marriages should be banned...
How senseless is that?

Yes, I know I'm quoting myself. But. Let's get back at least close to the subject. If anyone in this discussion cares to wade through the fascinating article referenced above you will find a wealth of useful information.
I'll quote a couple of the concluding paragraphs:
Parenting a gender-variant child is challenging, Gloria says, not because there's anything wrong with the child "but because of how they are perceived, and how our parenting skills are perceived, and how our morality is perceived." But, she says of Tony, "We are blessed to have him. He has changed our lives. He has opened our eyes."
From her new vantage point, Gloria believes that gender-variant children need extra support because of the challenges they will face. "If we don't make them strong, they are going to fail. And the only way to make them strong is to make them feel proud of who they are. There is no other way..."
Sadly, even in my community the article ends with this:
Names, places and other identifying details in this article (including the writer's name) have been changed to protect the identities and safety of the children and their families. |

That's a very sweet article, thanks for posting. Let your kid grow up to be what he/she was born to be. What a concept. Maybe there's hope for humanity after all. Some kids have the world's greatest parents. (That's right, more than one kid has the world's greatest parents. :P) |

Heck yea! Damn those slaves wanting their freedom and go to hell all you crazy radical abolitionists that are crusading for them! GRAMPS says pick that cotton so do it!
Society is not a unchanging, perfect thing. Stop trying to stifle people who want to make it better. |
