Hmmmmmmm.........hey, Lonz........we must not be looking at the same challenge! Not a lot of "wtf's" that I can see in there! :)

There were at least 20 that I counted... and gave below a 4...

LOL......ok, Lonz.....so, you were the one I swore at then! ;)

I knew going in that mine was not going to be well received because I did not have much time, access to pretty scenery, access to a busy city, and the moon was not cooperating. But I submitted this because i found some new topic to experiment with and this is my new starting point!

Awww......Colorcarnival, I feel for ya cause I'm there too. Seems that unless I have access to prety water and city scenes, or a great studio to shoot in and all kinds of lovely filters, I can't compete either. Hmmmmmm........wonder what nude shots look like at night????? *grin* It seems the nudes do well no matter what the challenge!!!

Someone in this thread mentioned that they thought they'd lost touch with what DPC voters wanted. Perhaps, I NEVER knew, or perhaps, I do but don't have the scenery to be able to do it????

Ok, putting my house up for sale now and moving somewhere warm and "pretty"! ;)

I am sucking so bad on this challenge but the 5 comments I have received are fabulous. I think I will go with that and be thrilled as always.

Aside from the challenge, if you live near a city, find somewhere with a good view and shoot it.

If you live in a rural area, find a hill or something that sticks up and shoot it on a very long exposure. With only 15 seconds, I captured this:

Then there's the moon, which is available everywhere. :)

I have no idea what your shots are, and maybe they're a lot better than that.

But there are definitely good shots you can get at night, regardless of where you live.

"Technicolor smiles" not allowed on this forum post. If any hurling is about to transpire, go vomit on one of those bicycle scores forum posts.

I'm heading off to that land of unlimited exposure night-shots, dreamworld where there is no distinction between digital photo and digital art!

I suppose I should want higher than that, but I don't really think the picture deserves it, and one of the comments is a very nice one from someone with way, way more talent than I.

So I'm happy.

Sigh...rather sad with my score. I put a lot of effort into it: spent 2 hours out in the chilly night (it was a rather nice experience nevertheless). Put so much planning and thought into it. Very proud of the final result and submitted it with confidence. Expected at least a 6 for this one and having recovered from a 4.9 I am now settled into a 5.4. Bigger SIGH......

I've finished voting and the overall quality was good. One comment I've got to make is think about your borders. Sometimes a border adds to a photo but it seems easy to add a border that takes something away from a photo. There were a couple of "in your face" borders on some quite nice images.

Just my opinion :)

Personally, for the most part, I ignore borders in DPC submissions. I do so for these reasons:

1-The image, not the border, is what is important.

2-At 640 pixels for most allowed submissions, borders take up WAY to much image space for the size allowed.

3-If noticed, most borders detract from the quality of the image.

4-For the most part, borders are for gallery display prints, not online images.

There are exceptions to these issues, of course, but they are few and far between.

I judge pictures, not borders.
