Not one comment...Hmm.I may be done with "Challenges" . I'll just stick with the forums.

Um. On your 6th entry, you beat everything I've entered in 83 tries other than one shot. You've never scored below 5 and your average is 5.6.

If you enter challenges primarily for comments, then you might be right - it's better to use the forums to get comments.

But as far as scoring goes, you're doing quite well.

Night shots is always a very tough contest. The photos are just amazing. I am sitting at a 6.6 and it would put me in about 35th place in the last night contest.

I did my best, and was rewarded with a high score, but the night contests are just threw the roof because so many are just spectacular.

That's my problem in terms of ranking. Most of my high scores come in very high-scoring challenges. I need to figure out how to get a high score in a tougher challenge. :)

Yeah, I think 6 is the new 5 in this one.

Nice Score Rev. Robinson!

You and Zoomer are doing really well these days. Based on your score I'm pretty sure I know which is your entry. ;)

imo its hard to really mess up a night shot... if you have a tripod you're good to go, but alot of entries were out of focus, had bad composition, and just plain uninteresting, I gave out an equal amount of 1-4's as I did 6's.

Movin' on up. You people with your 7s can fight it out for the top spots. I'm just hoping to get a new shot in my top 5 so I can see it in my profile. :)

I think that I may have a slightly different eye and scoring system then, because a 1 or 2 in my system is a total DNMC. I RARELY EVER give out a 1 or 2! A 3 in my system means.....really out of focus or horrid composition or a real horrid "snapshot" look to it. It has to be really poor for me to give a 3. A 4 is a shot that is uninteresting in subject, or poorly focused or really just have ANY "pizazz" at all. Beyond that, most photos deserve a minimum of 5 in my system. Anything better than "average" ranks up there in the 6-10 range.

To me, giving out 1's, 2's 3's or even 4's on a regular basis is saying that I'm being far too judgemental and looking for "professional" quality. And, since this isn't a site for just professionals and I'm certainly not a professional, I can't justify using those types of scores easily or often. Mind you, when I've felt my shots have been unfairly scored....I've been tempted! ;) Which makes me wonder.....I wonder if a lot of low scorers are "spite" or "fear" votes"?????

As for taking a night shot....this was my very first attempt EVER at a night shot. I used a tripod and I played with settings as this was my learning experience. I think I did a pretty good job and creatively got a shot. NO, it wasn't one of the pretty night, reflective city-water scenes as there's no water around me, but it was creative. And, personally, I think that comparing those types of shots against all others or one's own shots is going to lead to low scoring on everything else. Such a shame because it pegs everyone into one type of style and anything outside of that style is considered a 1-4! Wouldn't matter HOW well executed it was or is if that is the case, would it?

And, by the way......there's an old song that says....."Riding high in April....shot down in May...." ;)

I have a feeling (looking at the entries) there are atleast 2 more (besides Lonz and hotpasta) who should be way above 7.0 ..so even though I am jump with joy every time I see my score on the front page, I don't see a ribbon!

Good thoughts... I might take this post into consideration the next time I vote. I don't vote down a DNMC just because it DNMC'd - it still could be a great shot. I need to slow down when I vote... I need to look at everything a couple times before I commit to a score... its sometimes hard because I don't have alot of time and my attention span sucks... maybe I can just shift the scale up a bit... I RARELY give out 10's ... I think its because this site seems to engineer my eye to look for those "winning shots" --- thanks for you thoughts PI ... really made me think! All in all I think I will still remain a conservative voter.

I was at 6.3 yesterday, today my scores are dropping like a stone but I've got a couple of great comments, it's all very confusing. I'm not complaining though I'll be very happy if it stays at 6.2.

I am of the same thought. I do vote along similar lines to Technoshroom. When I vote I go through one time and vote with comments here or there. I go back a day later and adjust any that I may have been too harsh or easy on. I have only given a 1 once and my average score for an average photo that meets the challenge but has no pizaz is a 5.

We might be neighbors, Bobbie. I'm rooting for a new personal best for you, but it looks like you're a lock for at least a new 2nd best.

My score is not too great. Have had a good few comments. Most of them positive, one not too good. Seems my rather different perspective is appreciated by a few but not the majority. Oh well, I liked it and still do and that's what is important. There are a few adjustment I would like to make that would make it that bit better and will definately apply a couple to the comments.
